This really does not make any sense at all!! It's actually one of the more stupid things i've heard in a while. I'd really like to hear the reasoning behind this.

There is no way i'd give up my camera.

I read it on the internet via City of Vancouver bylaws.

So yes, it IS a bylaw put in place by the city stating that no cameras or other recording devices will be allowed into said events.
Basically without all the fancy mumbojumbo, the city doesn't want any proof that: drugs are dealt at these events, people take drugs at these events, people overdose at these events, and the ultimate reason - people might possibly die at these events.

so basically, get a guy to crotch your digicam when you go in or use your phone. the law isnt going to change anytime soon.

Mr mayor we have a problem, people are complaining that their kids are going to these all night electronic dance parties and consuming illegal substances!

We've held a commitee meeting on this and have come up with the perfect solution

what is that? more drug awareness in schools? anti-drug adds on tv? hold legal events with proper security?

what?! of course not man1 that all takes money! we'll just ban camera's at these events so that no one will see whats going on, we can't win the drug war, lets just turn a blind eye and hope it doesn't come up at election time

The sudden rule of no cameras has been put into play due to many different reasons.

One of the reasons is dj's (mostly headliners) stating on their writer, that they dont want flash photography done of them without permission. Would you like some random taking pics of you? It would piss ME off knowing other people have pictures of me. That rule doesnt really apply to 99.9% of raves, but lately it has, like menchioned, it does contribute to the "creeper" factor that I see at raves (sketchy guys trying to take upskirt photos of 13-14 year old girls).
A recent law has been passed that photography of any individual without their concent (especially if under the age of 19) is ILLEGAL. Photography of an individual over 19 with out permission is a potential lawsuit. Hence why those traffic cameras were put out of commision (concerned "citizens" looking for a loop hole...aka a law that no one really knew about til someone pointed it out to the public.) A possible solution could be/would be a better disclaimer on the tickets purchased, explaining "by buying this ticket, you put yourself in an enviroment that contains photos cameras" etc etc.|
Security companies can loose their bussines forever if they dont atleast try to abide to the current laws passed in Vancouver...especially for events, if you havnt noticed at concerts... 90% of them have big signs displaying the big X over "Outside Foods and Beverages. No video recording devices (unless authorized) and photo cameras."

look at it this way:

At least the city is allowing raves to continue even though they know the majority of these events are manifesting drugs. I bet you some little raver kiddie porn pics were brought to their attention more then 1 time and I guess this was the best thing they could do.

I think it's a small price to pay if you look at it this way lol

That really sucks cus half the fun of bringing a camera to parties is looking at the pics u took the next day!
Oh well smaller parties are usually better anyways and I'm sure we can still bring cameras into those.

I think putting that disclamer on the back would be a smart idea, that way the security guards can let the camera's in and people can still take their pics, and if the DJ's bitch about the flash photography...fuck'em they can just not play and not get paid. (cuz what big name dj isn't used to getting pics taken, honestly)

if they're going to enforce any kind of camera rule it should just be "no digital cameras" not "every camera". because, you can't do that much damage with a disposable. usually i'm so fucked out of my mind at raves that if i don't take pictures, i won't remember half of what i did at the rave.

the whole rule is lame.

and the underaged sluts who dress like they're on a kiddie porn set...they're the people/things that should be banned, not the cameras

^^ fully agree, ban whores.

problem solved.

Basically, if your not okay with having your picture taken then dont go to parties. I have huge albums full of party pictures and I love looking back on them!! If there are people complaining that they get negative attention through pictures, (up the skirt and whatnot) dont be a whore, nobodys going to take a picture of some girls bum in trackpants. And about the DJ's, really, thats just ridiculous, how on earth do they expect to establish a fanbase with a no pictures policy, like come on now. Thats stupid.

[Edit-some people may take pictures of peoples bums in trackpants, but if they're that pathetic, let them. sheesh]

I think 16+ is reasonable. Also maybe a dress code??? (nothing that is sold in a store as underwear will be accepted.) And tickets that mention that you may be in the background of unauthorized photos.

i think the age restriction thing would prompt a lot of younger ppl to start looking for and using fakes earlier.. might not be a good thing

promotors should just refuse ppl who wear underwear on the outside. like, if you're royally fucked up and wearing only your panties, it can get quite dangerous.

if your party clothes only consist of undergarmets, you're not gettin into my party. :)

it would be a good idea, but girls would just change once they got into the washroom. kinda like stephanie kaye in degrassi junior high!!

all the way with stephanie kaye!

Yah but it could be enforced like anyone that is found on drugs, fighting, ect. If we find you in panties later, you get the option to change or get kicked out. It's really not hard to spot a girl in lingerie. But really unless the promoters make sure it is enforced, then the security probably won't make it a priority.

a) i think thats retarded that you cant bring cameras in, not that i usually bring one, but its still nice to have pictures sometimes. i understan that some dj's might not want pics taken of them....but there could always be rules/signs put up stating not to take pics of them.
b) i think that a 16+ age limist is a very good idea, and should be applied
and c)overly slutty underaged girls should be kicked out :p

well dj's like Tiesto, Armin, etc etc have lawyers that will sue promoters cuase the writer wasnt fully followed. A face of Tiesto can spark controversy in regards to the artist having unauthorized duplication of his face that may be used on material such as cd covers and promotional material (haha yes they are THAT bad when it comes to not wanting faces of a dj taken and then god forbid have it printed on a piece of paper)
