Brainless staff
So I find out today that on Friday evening after I had left, one of my staff members had a sudden "lightbulb" moment to leave the hospital during her dinner break. Normally, we don't condone leaving the hospital premises during break times, unless it is of urgency, in case there is an emergency situation that occurs.
So... she gets permission from the charge nurse and our on-line services. Normally, staff don't necessarily ask to leave, so when they do, the remaining staff obviously assume it is of great importance.
When she returns, the charge nurse (out of concern) asks her where she had gone. She replies, "I needed to go to the Bay because there was this 2 for 1 luggage sale that I couldn't miss".
Now, just to clarify, the nearest Hudson Bay Company is approximately 10 mins away if you're going about 80km in a 50km zone; it was also raining. So, aside from leaving the premises for a stupid luggage sale, she raced herself there and back in the rain on a dark night.
I approached her today and reviewed the policies of the hospital with her, and she sat infront of me for 10 mins trying to justify the importance of this sale to me.
So... in the end, she forces her patients to bed by 7pm, breaks hospital policy, jeopardizes her employment and almost kills herself over a 2 for 1 luggage sale at the Bay, and til this moment, she doesn't understand what she really did wrong.
