Racism?!?!?
So in between classes today, i went shopping! Bought some stuff, went to PC and Robson Street, then went back to school. on my way home afterwards, when i got on the victoria bus.
It was packed so I had to move all the way to the back. While i was holding my stuff I had to stand up because there was no space to sit, well this guy, that was taking up two seats, said something and i couldnt quite hear him, because i had my earphones on, and i was listning to Chilaliens (optimum sound's mix), so i took one ear off, i said "huh", he was looking at me and my shopping bags and he said "did you buy anything for me?" i said, "i only had enuff money for me" of course as people normally make small talk i thought he was joking, (no offense intended) he was native indian and i usually like talking to them because they have nice stories and most of them are really fun to talk to. Then he's like "you fucken hindu" I got pissed, but i still thought he was joking but he didnt mean to say that. Then he said "huh, is that what you said, huh, you said huh to me" then he said it again "You Fuckin Hindu" But kept in my anger. This is the first time in my entire life i have ever been racially discriminated. He started kicking my shopping bags lightly from the bottom, seeing this i moved it away, then the guy is like "what are you afraid you fucken hindu" I swear if he said one more thing i would have knocked the shit out of him, I would have cared less about the consequences. luckily somebody saw me actually getting mad, and stared the guy down. the guy looked at him, then this guy noticed and hes like "what the fuck are you looking at?" then the other guy said "im looking at a piece of shit". Then the racist guy tried to pick a fight with him. Took the heat off me, but he kept looking at me. Until i got off at my stop, i was waiting for him to follow me off so that I could knock his ass, but he stayed on. I cant believe this shit still goes on. I was so surprised. I have never been discriminated ever in my life. Even when i go out in my religeos dress anywhere, I even go sometimes shopping and to blockbuster in my religeos dress but nobody says anything, it seems like they dont even notice me. But this, i was in nomal clothes, with my schoolbag coming from school. I am shocked. |

Harsh dude and yes there is rascism everywhere but people keep it to themselves nowadays, but in a province like bc, where theres people of every culture, this shouldn't happen. That guy was probably hating his life and looks at others as an excuse for it. Quite amazing to have to go through that this day and age.

Bigger man always walks away.
I always laughed at that and thought it was bullshit cowardice. Then one day I walked away and it was the hardest thing to do to not give into my rage and anger and look like a coward when I knew I could have just smashed the guys face in. Still bugs me to this day but it is definitely harder/takes more balls to swallow your pride and walk away. Big ups Nabs !:364: |

That really sucks you had to deal with that shit nabs. I'd be ready to knock that loser out too. Don't take it personally tho man, I'm sure that guy's got hella problems if that's the kinda class he demonstrates in public. |

Thats hurting man, just ignore it.
I used to have to deal with that shit in highschool. I'd be in a smoking circle and someone would make some comment about stupid chinks blah blah blah. I had to go along with it and pretend like i wasen't half asian, like it was a big joke that i was in on that a couple guys called me Half bred chink. Others thought i was all cool with it because i laughed and went along so people thought it was ok. I was forced to be ashamed of my roots through school and by racists cliches my mom used to espouse. I would get embarressed whenever anything asian would come up. Now i'm finally freed and able to be who i truly am, it's a great feeling. |

props to you nabs, and you decypher. It's hard for folks like us to understand why racism is even an issue anymore. It's definately a mindset of the past. Canada and BC especially have a reputation for being open-minded and multi-cultural. Our whole society was built on a diverse cultural foundation, and some people just don't have the intelligence and wisdom to see past an archaic bias. It's one thing to be harrassed for being different, but being from another cultural background doesn't make you different at all. I sincerely hope in the future, nabs, that you look at it differently. Don't see it as some demeaning you, see it as them demeaning themself. Take ease in knowing that karma will always be on your side, so long as you use hold your own and don't lose your temper. Every negative opinion someone else holds should be taken with a grain of salt, because you can't change it and it won't change you.

something like that probably happens to me every couple of years. The first reaction i get isn't even anger it's straight-up shock as it still surprises me that there are such blatant racism in this country in this day and age. I know racism still exists but most of the open racism i experience is the stuff that's spurred on by ignorance ("gee, you're asian - you must be good at match") rather than pure maliciousness (which is generally confined to private).

Funny you mention it was on the Victoria bus. I was heading back from Twisted NYE the morning of New Years on the same bus and something similar happened between a black guy and an older white guy. (True story).
So black guy offers him his sandwich because the white guy looks like a bum (fairly old, ratty clothes, acts kinda wierd, etc). He slaps it out of his hand. White guy says "get the fuck out of my way, you're not that important in this world". Black guy was getting off at the next stop and just as he was going down the stairs, white guy yells 'thats right N***** keep on walking'. Black guy comes back up and says "Maybe we should step off the bus and sort this out". White guy says it again. Black guy pummels white guy in the face and says "you don't ever use that word again. EVER. Next time I will kill you." He then walked off the bus. Just a prime example of how arrogant and retarded people can be. It happens a lot downtown, it's rediculous. |
