The stones used to rock. When they were edgy, avant-guarde and controversial. Fuck, I would've even been happy if they played Sympathy For The Devil... and don't you dare go saying that that wasn't one of their more popular/recognizable songs. Now watching the Stones is akin to translating Jesus' teachings 2000 years after his death. Trying to get an audience to grasp onto something that they weren't really there for by repackaging it for the new generation, losing all meaning and point that was intended through the process. |

my point was that the stones have numerous songs that have been over played and to some may seem out dated. they have been around forever. ANY performer at the half time show will play what they are told, and it will be their most recognizable songs. so thats why your heard start me up and satisfaction. because, yes, indeed, most everyone has heard a few times.
most middle aged men who are most likely 50% of the super bowl fans can relate to the rolling stones and did grow up in their era. personally i think its obscene to have people like justin timberlake and janet up there. i dont think they really relate to alot of the fan base. how many hardcore nfl fans who fork out the money to see the superbowl are rocking to justin on their way to the game? and yes it is sad that the whole fucking world is being baught over by corporations, it really really is. but its the super bowl, do you really think that its not going to be slandered in corporate funding? |

Seriously. In the last three years I haven't heard a single appearance by them where they haven't used those two, or in situations where they only play one song, Start Me Up. Interestingly enough, those are also their songs that appear most on television commercials. This is what we call selling out. Plain and simple. And frankly, watching Mick Jagger develop a lisp in front of a pit of people that were most likely paid to be there in the first place, playing songs that are long outplayed and they really can't perform that well anymore... doesn't really strike me as a rewarding concert experience. But whatever. Enjoy your rockstar worship. In the meantime I'll save myself for shows I'll actually enjoy. So how was that Lingerie Bowl, anybody? |
