People who bitch and whine about ICBC.

You guys don't know how good you have it here! Would you really rather automotive insurance becomes a privatized industry here, causing MAJOR inflation?

Where I come from, the only people who are allowed to drive a car are names that appear on the insurance papers only. Out here its who ever you give permission to.
Adding another driver to the insurance (it goes Primary Driver, Secondary Driver, and Other Drivers). Costs more. I don't mean an extra $10 a month per person... I'm talking an extra $4,000+ per year, per person. On top of the $2000-4000 the owner has to pay just to have his/her car insured in the first place. So for example to have an entire family using one car, would cost about 10 grand a year.

Also, people blame ICBC for everything.
"I'm depressed, I'm going to sue ICBC!"
"My car won't start, I'm going to sue ICBC!"
"Some driver honked his horn at me and gave me the finger, I'm going to sue ICBC!"
"My penis is too small, I'm going to sue ICBC!"
"I'm broke, I'm going to sue ICBC!"

Some guy just won a court case against ICBC. He sued them because of a "road rage" incident. So because he couldn't track down and sue the guy who beat him up, or swore at him for going 20 under the speed limit or whatever it was, he actually sued ICBC and won. Pathetic.

-end rant.

I do have to agree.

So many people constantly complaining about ICBC and stuff like it.

Espically over things they should be! Everyone just seems to see it as a quick way to get cash! If it in due, then thats fine, but people who try to milk things for something that they shouldnt, and then complain when it doesnt work piss me off.

But with all the kids who try to file lame claims just to get hundreds of thousands of dollars because they bumped their head on an airbag... do you expect they will just keep handing out money as easy?

We're ruining it for ourselves!

they keep trying to take your money (and they arn't taking nearly as much as private insurance companies are) because people keep abusing the system, trying to milk money out of it. They have to get the money from somewhere. ICBC is actually the one getting shaftet here.
However your buddy's problem was just an error, and was fixed. Things like that happen with every company.

Ontario is what I was talking about... So expensive.

Never heard of people having fake insurance... I wouldn't doubt it. But I have seen people there with stickers on their plates that say like "July 99" when its 2001. Or things like that.

I haven't had issues with ICBC, but I do know that my manager is from Alberta and insures her car with Albertan insurance because it is cheaper.

It's a catch 22 really

private insurance can be good or bad.. it all depends where you live. then again, here in canada everything seems to be more expensive when it comes to cars.

i only dislike icbc because my insurance is $3000 a year AFTER my discount, and my car isn't even that great. i just think some of their policies are stupid.. like the way a 2 door car is considered a sports car because it's has two doors, and not 4.

that and like any insurance company, they dick around with claims sometimes. the whole "low velocity impact collision" they put on my last claim was bullshit, but i couldn't do anything with a lawyer, and it wasn't worth it.

private or public.. whatever. they're both good and bad in their own ways.

1 accident at 0% discount and your rates go up with a 100% surcharge with a 15 % drop per year

actually, no. i don't pay the most. and fyi, speeding tickets aren't counted towards your insurance (unlike most places with private insurance.), as much as i think they should be.

even so, i have had NO tickets (speeding or any other kind), no accidents or anything. my driving record is perfectly clean (i was in one accident where i wasn't even driving), and i have a 15% discount.

so really, insurance is NOT cheap for everyone, even those people who are good drivers. my parents pay $1400/year after they're FULL roadstar gold discount. (do the math and before discount that's getting close to the amount i pay)

private insurance can be good, but it all depends on your area. i know people who pay approx. $150/month to insurance THREE cars. and that's all private insurance. so yeah, some areas suck. others don't.

Fuck icbc...

they run a monopoly and it isn't regulated by anybody... if you have a complaint against ICBC, who do you complain to ? ICBC fair practices department.. yes... i'm sure they arn't biased at all!

and then they start bullshit like the "low velocity impact commity" that basically tells you if your accident is under a certain speed that you can't get compensation for an injury.. note to ICBC... it IS possible to sustain injuries when you get rammed by someone whos going 60km/hour

I would rather pay more and not give ANY of my money to ICBC.

the privatised system in alberta is far superior. far cheaper rates for good drivers and harsher penalties for bad drivers. keep's bad drivers off ther oad with high prices, unless they happen to be wealthy of course.
