Here's the key boys and girls
Fuck knowing what you do. To get booked here's some simple tips

Know people. That's number one. Know promoters, or if worse comes to worse, throw an event.

Do something interesting. Anyone can grab two records I've heard a million times before, and play them together.

If you can't handle that, play a genre, which I won't have 500000 diffrent dj's I can pick when I book.

If you have no ablility to do those, then make a *shudder* demo.
Either make sure it is HOSTED online, or on cd's you can pass out.

Don't expect people to icq/email/phone you for the mix.

Don't make fucktard demands. Your lucky they even are thinking of booking you

that about sums it all up...

I played @ Viva Club after only touching decks about 10 times,,, and a month and half later I'm here in Hong Kong.

would I still be here this fast without the help of my girlfriend/manager?

the answer is simple...

NO.

OK this is what i want to know. How much could you possibly know about spinning after 5 days? There is NO fucking way you could make even a half way decent mix after that much practice. Do these promoters just not give a shit if you trainwreck? Do they care about the quality of the music? It dosnt make a whole lot of sense. In the UK DJ's get booed of the fucking stage if they are shit, i guess in Vancouver the average clubber dosnt know shit about the music they listen to.

This city is a music sespool

well when I was in london last year ..

dj's were playing a record it ended and they just put on another one ,I was so amazed at that

in all honestly I get demos daily and the first 5 mins is where I make a decision.

its true its who you know ...people only listen to what comes outa the speakers if it sounds good ,promotors will book you

and i was spining for about 2 months b4 my first party

What do the demos that you recieve look like? I know that lots of DJ just record a shitty quality tape. I can see why promoters throw that stuff away. Im doing my demo at the moment and im putting a shitload of work into it, including studio time. Dosnt it just get tedious recieveing the same crappy tapes over and over. Then again i plan on sending more demo outside of Vancouver then inside.

Ive been spinning for almost 3 years now and i purposley waited this long before making my first demo. i wanted to make sure that i had my shit down before even bothering to look for a booking. Ive seen soooo many dj's start and after even 5 months or so there mixes are still shit, im sure its the same for everyone. Its fucking rediculas that people are actually getting booked after such short amounts of time.

Then again where are all of you spinning? Im not looking to spin at ghetto partys, thats the same as spinning at a house party. Ninjaboy do you have a club residency? where do you spin? where does this DR.Doom spin?

Agreed.

To tell you the truth,,, I don't have any desire to play at any other clubs or parties when I get home. I'm happy to play at Vica Club 2 or 3 times a week just so I can play for my friends and people who actually appreciate the style of muisc I play.

I'm more interested in trying to get out of town bookings. Even before I started spinning I realized that Vancouver is an awesome place to Dj if you're already famous/established,,, but it fucking sucks if you're trying to make a name for yourself.

anyways...

Special-K: What style of music do you spin?

the 5-days, is due to the genre.

Digital hardcore

As for special K. You need to learn a bit

Listen to the first few miniutes of a mix, that's all anyone is going to care about

as for it looking good. I would rather book someone who spent the time and cared enough to make it look good, then some fucktard who hands me a cd with there name written in pen

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

Yes I do spin semi regular at events.
Next show, Hard Music show. (Teamhardcore for details, come on! It'll be great.)

But who cares?

Your obbsesion with status is probably the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time.

This just goes to show. Your not going to make it worth shit.
You care way to fucking much about status.

Sure, my mixes aren't as "tight" as yours. But I hate to toot my own horn, but it sounds like I have way more fun.

You might think it's "rediculas" but people don't care that much about the "tight mixes". They just wanna go and have fun. I can say that I provided that.

i've been mixing for over 2 years now. but i think making mix cds is a whole new thing. u need to make seriously hundreds of mix cds before u make the perfect one. it takes so much experience to know how a good mix cd should be layed out. so kyle i gotta say before u make your official demo i think you should record your sets a bunch of times and really listen to them inside out before u make an official one. cuz uLL notice so many things u can improve on after listening to your own mixes. rescently i've been able to make pretty consistantly good mix cds everytime i make one cuz oh dear Lord i've made seriously hundreds of mixes no joke.. hehe all good practice in the end =) but the experience from making alot is so damn helpful. but i'm not assuming that its gonna be bad since i've never heard you play so good luck! =)

haha ya, believe me i pick my mixes apart so much, there is really no "perfect" with me. Recently i have been getting oppurtunities to spin in front of people and really thats what i needed. All this recent spinning has boosted my confidance so much. I know now that all the hard work has paid off, im finally really confidant about my mixing. Everytime i spin i have at least 3 other Dj's around, most of them have been spinning for longer then me and we all help eachother out, its nice having people pick apart my mixes, its the best way to learn.

Ya i havnt done much recording at all but im not rushing this demo at all. Right now my goal is to have it done by august. Ill be sure to get in tons of recording practice before i make the final mix.

Ninjaboy it looks like i touched a nerve with you or somthing. Jeez chill out. All i was saying is that if you are being PAYED to mix, then you should fucking sound good. Man you got a bit of a temper mr.internet all star. And you still didnt answer my questions. All i wanted to know is where you guys spin? dont see any reason for you to bite my head off, if you didnt want to answer the questions then thats fine.

oh ya ninjaboy im a bit confused in your post you said:

"as for it looking good. I would rather book someone who spent the time and cared enough to make it look good, then some fucktard who hands me a cd with there name written in pen"

Well it sounds to me like your throwing that in my face. Actually thats EXACTLY what i said in my earlier post. I believe i was saying that i am spending time to make my cd look good because it must be tedious for promoters to recieve the same ghetto Cds over and over

go fuck yourself :355:

Danny: Ya man i dont really want to spin here either, like i said ill send more demos outside of Vancouver. It would be way more fun to spin for a crowd that dosnt know who you are. Plus every other club scene on earth is better then here. I would much rather play clubs then raves.
