yea, they only had 3 albums released on warner - Mr. Bungle (produced by John Zorn), Disco Volante, and California.
They had 4 albums out on indie labels of which Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny was their first. Definitely had a rougher, less refined sound than their later ones. I'm sure Warner only signed the album cause Patton was with Faith no More at the time and they were like the biggest thing ever - i would have loved to have seen the look on the faces of the suits that signed them the first time they heard the self-titled album :D. |

btw, now that you have ableton you can start including some FNM in a mix :) - Epic mixes with dnb too...

True enough. I'm going to focus on actually utilizing Ableton's capabilities before I post another mix though. Throwing a mix together is one thing.. once you do all the file warping it's pretty much just click and drag. I want to start doing on-the-fly editing and remixing.

have you heard this?

okay so once again I've been sucked in and down loaded this mix. I was about to turn it off and then BAM, track 8 (blue state riddim) hit. wow, that's a huge tune. Unfortunately he was so stoned while recording this he forgets to mix in another record when it's done playing and once it goes silent just drops the needle on his next track. Oops!

i was too, even after i saw him at shambles two years ago, but the show he did at richards absolutely amazed me, played gltich hop and grimey dnb, and everything dope in between.. as a dj, he could be better for sure, but he certainly doesnt lack stage presence or charisma.. in so far as his production goes, i rather like the sounds he uses, simple and dated as they may be, as it makes him rely on good writing to make his tracks.. and im more concerned writing good music over making new noises. just my opinion. |

yaa at shambhala i checked out his sets briefly but moved onto the other stages both nights he was playing.
Seemed OK but nothing amazing enough to hold my interest for much more than 5 minute intervals before moving onto something else. but I love that krs-1 track off mesmerizing the ultra tho. "arrival" |

i think his success is largely based on his charisma (read: hair) but what most people find charismatic about him, i find totally repellant. he seems all too eager to accept the god-status bestowed on him by his hippie fanbase. all the new-age spiritual imagery associated with his CDs & such i find totally flakey. he plays some good tunes when he DJs, but i can't listen to his CDs. just totally wack imo. real prima donna attitude too, likes to tell promoters how to do their job. he's basically the Tiesto of hippies.

I agree with the whole rockstar thing tho... seems Lorins act tuned from Bassnectar to "The Bassnectar Show". I guess im kinda off the bandwagon because of that. Last edited by Jonny Dubbs; Jan 26, 07 at 04:41 PM. |
