Lorin Bassnectar -- Mesermizing the Ultra
If you haven't picked this up yet.. GO! RUN! TITI MAU! RIGHT NOW!
So happy this arrived yesterday. I can't stop listening to it. Definately on par with Diverse Systems of Throb.. although a second disc full of remixes kinda gives it the upper hand over Throb. Regardless. . . if you like Bassnectar, breakbeats, psychedelic, or great art in general.. get this shit. Seriously, there's no other producer out there like this man. I bet the man eats talent for fucking breakfast. Hahahaha, I think Yoda even makes an appearance in "Blow". Expect another one of these when my new Tipper disc comes in the mail ;) edit: I forgot an 'm' in Mesmerizing. My bad. |

The one thing i'll give him live is the fact that he has the stage presence.
as far as a technical DJ mixing-wise goes, I could name 10 locals in van who could mix circles around him. edit: btw keep in mind i feel that way about a lot of big name DJs Last edited by dj_soo; Jan 19, 07 at 03:21 PM. |

And there are probably 100 DJs across Canada that could spin circles around them, but this isn't about his mixing.. it's about his studio production which appeals to me immensely. I imagine there are a dozen producers in town that could put out work far more intricate and advanced than his, but you like what you like.

totally... like, "jumpstyle" - when did that happen? sounds like underproduced hardcore to me, just a kick, basic perc loop and a single synth most of the time.
I guess most of the ravers weren't around to hear those sounds the first time around. (in fact, I'm banking on that! ) |

his basslines are huuuuuge.. they just rip thru u and make u loose control lol.. thats the only way i can really describe it.. like i said ... seeing him live is the way to go.. people go insane... u really need to see him play at shambhala to understand it i guess....
and this is coming from someone who lives ..eats ..and breathes house music.. i do listen to everything else.. just not as much.. and i like lorin because its a sound not alot of other people out there have... |

I'm all about diversity man. I love experimental music with a passion.. Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band is up there in my all-time top 10 and that's as experimental as it gets. Jazz-metal is a little hard to get into due to how uncommon it is, but from what I've heard it's stellar music. |
