DJs. a question about recording...
what do you think is the best way to begin a mix?
Something that cracks you over the head immediately? grabs your attention. BANG! right off the bat? Something that is chill that slowly warms the listener up and sets up what is to come? so that it is all the more kickin when the mix DOES heat up? a track that everyone knows to make them go "hey! i know this!" and have them identify with the mix immediatly? ....or something that is totally unique and fucked up? makes you go... "wtf...?" but is still groovin? maybe the obvious is to do something unique and crazy to set you apart... but the point is to also set the general tone of the mix as well, perhaps? what are your thoughts!? |

oh man theres so many ways u can start a mix
i guess this is my own personal style but i like to start a mix off with a good interesting intro and attempt to do some interesting mixing as well as throwing in samples, scratches whatever. i find the fist few songs are very important in ensuring the listener to be interested in spending time listening to the entire mix so i'll try to use good tracks as well as good technical skills. Its all about flow. You can start your mix any way you want: hard, angry, sad, happy, lovey whatever but you have to keep in mind that your entire set cannot be the same emotion forever or else it just gets SOOO damn boring. i can go on about this forever but it just takes a damn fuckin hell of a lot of recording and listening to your mixes inside to develop some sort of formula for your mixes. Keep it up! =) |

nice. yah, i've been experimenting with trying to sample and mix like 4-5 records in the first couple minutes of the mix...eep. pretty hectic! =) thx man!!
sebcoe: yes, i meant the beginning of a set or cd mix. even if you are not a dj, what is your opinion? anyone else? laytah!! =) |

yah, im recording right now... hence the questions... :)
i'll let ya know when its finished and on cd. :Keebler: start it off with a bang and then follow it by jaw-dropping tracks? yes. good plan! :107: the trick is not to blow it all to early, but still have the first tracks be kick-ass. thats the balance i guess. precise: bunk intro beat... hmm... yah, where you have to wait for 2 minutes before it gets to be anything besides drums and percussion? true true, thats hella annoying! tho i think you cant just jump in RIGHT before the peak of the song. I feel like it diminishes it when the track actually drops. its nice to set it up a bit. IMO. but definetly have something interesting going on while you are 'setting up' the climax of the song. thx for your opinions!! :Keebler: |

Well every dj has to have that one track that is definatley amazing yet the intro is so fucking long stick that in the front oof your mix I'd say.
I'm more interesting in the End of the mix. I've been taking so long recording a summer mix b/c I wanna tell a story with my music I've seen it many times From dj morgans mixes to dieselboys new cd. Im werking on strong vocals to start of the mix that always works. Just show a progression from one extreme to the other depending on whut you play. |
