I find it's easy for someone who doesn't listen/know jungle to listen to Aphrodite. Don't u guys think. If i was to say put on some Goldie, or Dieselboy. Most ppl that aren't into it just look all confused. But With Aphrodite, they actually listen to it. Same with Freaky Flow's first CD. Good introductory jungle

now goldie always throws down the big uk massive anthems. heLL throw down his own refuge crew tracks but most of the time he'LL rinse out big anthems, since he has the hookups from all the uk producers. dieselboy yes hes a different kind of dj. he showcases TIGHT creative mixing and flow with exclusive tracks from producers he works with (Tech Itch, Kaos etc) that nobody will get their hands on for ages. Once you see him live, i'm sure youLL appreciate complex drums and tighter mixing alot more =) if he wanted to, he could play a full out latest uk massive anthem set since he does revieve the tracks at the same time a dj like andy c does, but he chooses to go his own way and continue making his dj style unique... MAD MAD respects for dieselboy =) |

drumnbass has evolved to something ALOT more complex and musical. It adapts probably the most musical aspects to it than any other electronic genre out there. i'm not saying that its the best, i'm saying that it has a wider range of variety in styles and moods. cities like toronto have crazy crazy jungle scenes because they have dj crews like Vinyl Syndicate who rinse out brand new dubplates at the same time big uk djs do. vancouver unfortunatly doesnt at the present time, and once the anthems are released, EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DJ will buy it and play it and within a week, the song has been played out to its max. wouldnt it be nice if we could all seriously look forward to going to a party to hear new music we've never heard before? to hear tracks that are due for release in the next year? damn... i wish vancouver could be like that.... but for now i guess we'd have to resolve to listening to freaky flow and aphrodite eh? sad |

K Pryde being negative does not help to build anything and that is why the DnB scene in Vancouver is so small. All the DnB kids have a rep as being snobs...
What I am saying is that you need more people to be interested in DnB to bring in all the big boyz on a regular schedule. It's not that Vancouver promoters don't have the hook ups it's that Andy C is to expensive for the amount of people he'll draw. I think that in a lot of ways Vancouver as a city has the same attitude as a DJ that is really good but not that recognized. It wants to be (or in a DJ's case play) prime time with out paying it's dues. The reason that T.O. has the DnB scene they do is because it started out long before Vancouver and they have a larger population base to work from. Last edited by Senior; Aug 19, 02 at 04:59 PM. |

nolan its not that i'm being negative.
its the music here. have you been to another city with a solid drumnbass scene and really looked into it? youLL notice it describes what i just said above. i dont have anything against aphrodite and freaky flow. its just the fact that the jungle scene is so behind in vancouver compared to a city like toronto! jump up was in the past. it was great we all had fun. but theres much better, more evolved music out there being produced thats what i'm saying. you cant blame me for being negative. i'm only saying this for the good of the scene in vancouver. i want it to be good. and if the scene wants to improve, why not improve the music? the social aspect of partying are great, but the musical aspects are MUCH greater... but honestly it is lacking here in vancovuer |

I think u're missin nolan's point of the fact that Ahprodite style jungle is good to lure in future junglists. If they hear al the complex shit to start off they're goin to shy away from it because they don't understand it. Like I say to anyone who says they don't like jungle. "U'll eventually Learn!!!!!"

What you are not getting is that there has to be a much larger fan base of DnB to have the DJ's you want to see on a regular basis. If people who liked DnB would fill the Commodore on a weekly basis at $40 to $50 a head than Andy C and friends would be here all the time.
Acts like Aphrodite (who hasn't played jump up the last two times I've seen him) build up that fan base. If a promoter for a DnB night goes and shmoozes it up at Aphrodite "so you like DnB check out my night" they will interest new people in DnB. Sorry to say but Vancouver is probably 3 or 4 years behind where you want it to be. |

Most people go to a club to dance, drink, socialize and listen to the music. For most people they will be satisfied in all those ways by Aphrodite and friends. |
