A Great Double Bill:
Champion & his G-Strings
“Doing justice to his name, Champion built an ingeniously textured set…the beat never stopped nor did the vibe.” — Montreal Gazette
A member of Montreal’s music scene for the past decade, DJ/producer Maxime Morin, aka Champion, has been making waves ever since the release of his first album Chill’Em All (Saboteur Musique), for which he won the Album of the Year award in the electronic-techno music category at the 2005 ADISQ (Association du disque, de l’industrie, du spectacle québécois et de la video). The Montreal Mirror calls Chill’Em All, “a magnificent mix of minimal techno beats, piercing blues-based song and layers of twinkling, groaning, howling, crunching guitars piled one on top of the other.” The original and highly accessible disc made Champion and his band, the G-Strings (four guitars, bass, and vocals), an international hit. They’ve been packing club venues and festivals in Europe ever since and were recently invited to perform at the Academy Awards and the Toronto Film Festival. Make your way to the dance floor as Champion and company excite your senses.
MIKE Relm
Sharing the stage with nothing more than two turntables, a DVJ, mixer, and a microphone, San Francisco’s MIKE Relm defies any preconceived notions of what a solo DJ can achieve musically and visually. Genres of music mean absolutely nothing to this champion turntablist. Using the scratch techniques that turned the hip hop world upside down, Relm masterfully manipulates everything from Jimi Hendrix to Beck to Vince Guaraldi to Rage Against the Machine. Relm has become a worldwide leader in the visual arts, transforming every stage into his personal film festival, manipulating music and movies live to awestruck audiences.
