i kind of thought we had moved on from just talking radiohead but if you still want to harp on that go ahead. I already admitted i was wrong the album but my point still stands.
If they really didn't want any compensation, they would have just posted a link. Period. btw, i think you don't quite understand the definition of "donation" but whatever. |

yeh true but many won't even notice the quality difference.
As for the free thing, i think "giving it away for free" was more media framing if anything. Phrasing it that way is more sensational. That's why Radiohead said it was "up to you;" they're trying to give more power to the consumer as a new marketing model. Thinking that they did not want to profit from their creation is a bit delusional. There's a very active dialogue on the "participatory user" going on in Communications. So we'll see lots of experiments like this as people wake up to emerging technology and the old structure dies out or is modified. Last edited by decypher; Oct 14, 07 at 02:30 PM. |

Here's how radio head should have released their free sample.
I said it was a good idea at first, but upon further inspection it was a POS shit website with a POS mp3 rip (160kbps, even if you paid for it) Trent Reznor and Saul Williams are doing it right: Trent Reznor and Saul Williams Discuss Their New Collaboration, Mourn OiNK Quote:

They collect your email address, which is smart. They can sell them for at least .25c each :) They could make more money collecting and selling emails than i bet they could selling albums with music that would never get distributed. Also, i'm sure i'll hear about it when Saul comes out with a new album (that perhaps will not be free). Anyways....(N) radiohead (Y) Saul & Reznor. ^Saul Williams - "The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust" has got to be one of the best albums I've heard this year.
Any fan of NIN, TV on The Radio or any band similar will absolutely love this album. Saul Williams - The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! if you don't have the album yet. |

I actually might want to grab that. How's the vinyl? I picked up OK Computer a year and a half ago on record and honestly it's one of those recordings where even the CD doesn't really do it justice.
PS: I just saw This interview of Thom Yorke by David Byrne of Talking Heads fame on Digg. Very cool way of looking at the state of the music world, and very interesting discussions on the value of music. |
