Steve Aoki Sets anyone?

Anyone have anything by Steve Aoki? I'd like to buy tickets to his show next Friday, but with out listening to anything he's put out I'm not able to decide.

If only oink existed i'd be able to spend more money on concerts.

pure unadulterated hipster shit. If indie-rock remixes, trendy electro, and watching a guy who's worth more than you and all your friends and family will make in your lifetime act like a drunken idiot behind the decks - then go for it.

I've heard he's not *bad* per se, just not that great a DJ - but when has "dj skills" been a pre-requisite of hipster trendiness?

I was DJing @ Republic's patio with the Fast Life Crew when we hosted the John Acquaviva show a few weeks ago, and Steve was in town for a private gig (fashion show?). Anyhow, Trevor Risk, Baz and I had a good thing going, but man, the room turned upside down when Mr. Aoki showed up for a surprise guest DJ set! Had never seen him, and barely knew his stuff, but was totally impressed by his energy behind the decks. He played pretty fun music, and he was rocking pretty hard and really got the crowd going. At one point, he was hanging from the ceiling, with Paul Devro crowd surfing and shit. It was serious good times :-)

I say this a lot, and will say it again, a lot of times certain DJs are good under certain circumstances...

hahahah! nice! just saw this reply. Cheb I Sabbah is da bomb! I saw him in San Fran at this little club on Haight St. where he used to have a Tuesday night residency. Totally awesome. I may try and make it out to this :-) Wicked world beats and chill tunes.

to be fair, Aoki's not famous because he hooks up with b-list starlets - he's more famous because he's the heir to the Benihana restaurant fortune which is apparently worth something in the hundreds of millions - something in the vein of a Mark Ronson.

Also, AM is far from being a "mediocre" talent. The man is an unbelievable DJ and has paid his dues for years. He just got a lucky break with dating nicole ritchie...
