Electronica music in mainstream radio.

Because popular music is played on popular radio.

If Z95 started to play jungle, how many people do you think would listen.

Not many, most people don't like jungle. A radio station is not about to kill themselves so they can play jungle.

You're kidding right?!?

Breaks never make it into the mainstream?

Take any top fourty hip hop track and assure you it's a breakbeat.

If anything a majority of top fourty tracks of the past couple years have been fueled by breakbeats, you name a top fourty boyband and I bet they've had a top ten hit with a breakbeat.

Just look at the BT produced "Dirty Pop" by N*Stink

There are various others, but I'm too lazy to pull anything else up, especially for such an ill informed post.

Riot, people complain there isn't a radio station for electronica or its not being played, and when there is a station, the same people will start to complain that its gone mainstream. Go figure. :soak:

Problem is a lot of people in Vancouver base there music tastes on what the radio plays. Many do not listen to other genres. What's popular right now is hip-hop & rnb. Z lost a lot of its listeners because of The Beat. Have u noticed Z is now top 40 and "the best of the 90's".

I don't think Jungle will be played on a radio station because its to raw. Mind you, Drum-N-Bass is starting to gain some steam in some asian countries because of his simulaties to hip-hop.

As for breaks, they are on mainstrain radio, just a lot of people don't know it. Ie. the new madonna track from the 007 soundtrack.

I don't know why trance is played on Z, i think its the lyrics and its simple melody.

the trance they play on stations like Z is not what a real trace-head would be into though... it's that schmaltzy mainstream handbag trace, that's usually a cover of some pop song from the 80s (bryan adams, phil collins, etc). That shit is designed for play on mainstream radio, or at top 40 clubs. this shit is not made by people who seek to innovate or challenge people with their music, it's commercial fodder... the formula is, take some lyrics people (like your dad) will recognize, and give it a snappy beat and some pumping bass so people can dance to it. Wham, bam, thank you for the lowest common denominator of popular dance music ma'am.
