If you really wanna think about it in depth Florida breaks is not a Subgenre. Its a name given to the sound to easily distinquish the difference b/w normal funky breaks or cheasy funky breaks. Florida breaks are Funkybreaks. Now does Florida describe the music which we are tlaking about. No. And some may say that funky breaks doesnt even describe it but what is more fitting? I would have to say funky. In drum n Bass we have jump up, Tech step, and a whoole wack of other sub genres that make sense. Or House we have Progressive, Hard, Funky, and the list goes on.
Can we not have a breakbeat scene like this. Can we forget about where the music is made and actually just describe it the way we hear it.

Why classify genres? Why classify different animals? Or plants? TO KEEP IT ORGANISED. Think about record shopping for example. It would be a bitch to find records in store if there were no sub genres. Not everyone likes florida breaks. Not everyone like nu school. Not everyone likes hip hop. This way record shopping takes about a quarter of the time.[/b]

First of all maybe I didnt make too much sense while writing all that down but when i said Why do we have these stupid subgenres I meant Nu skool or Florida. I have seen breaks described as something other then these two terms and actually it helps me a lot better when searchign for records. And I mean who is the deciding factor when it comes to naming a breaks choon nu skool. Just becuz its from the uk and has a grimey bassline that makes it nu skool? Rennies sound was very different from what nu skool breaks is now. I don't really understand how most of the music out there can be called nu skool or should I say "Fool Skool"

One more thing. It wasnt a "marketing ploy" to coin nu school breaks the name that it has. It just makes sense. Its a new genre of breaks....different from all the rest. [/b]

It was a great way to sell his sound.
