the frustration continues, first off i`d like to say i fucking love trance with all my heart and soul,i respect the fact u don`t like trance but why do you have to voice a pointless opinion without any reasoning to back it up.that comment is just plain ignorant, the reality is it`s cool to not like trance,i`ve loved it for about 7 yrs. now and just because it`s not the cool thing at the moment i`m not gonna jump ship.there is alot of shit trance out there, but there is also some amazing trance being produced right now,the only problem is there are only a few of us playin it, and because we don`t have the money or resources at this time to do our own shows and put these guys in the prime time slots.vancouver is having to deal with in all reality cheesey trance, with sub par dj`s.it`s a sad fact for many that there are ppl. bashing what we love.i`m not a fan of jungle but i would never say i hate it because i have an open mind and realize that there is, in all likely hood some i would enjoy.

As the resident trance freak, I'd like to say that I agree with what my counterpart Sean! said (except the fact that you can't dance to it, though I will agree that it's not exactly the same kinda dancing as prog or house).
There's a big difference between good trance and "plaza schlock". I hope all of you haters catch either Paul van Dyk or Armin van Buuren, because you'll hear trance at its absolute finest on those nights, and at that point I feel you'll be able to make a more informed decision =) |

comparing the two, the main difference is that jungle has that really awesome small-medium room vibe but does not match the massive room vibe trance brings.... and on the other side of things trance doesnt have that intimate small room vibe like jungle does...... i guess this can only be musically explained once you see and hear it for yourself |

Maybe if ppl stoped "hateing" certin kinds of music and isolating themselfs to only enjoy certin types... We would probly enjoy not only each others company, but enjoy the Vancouver night life much more and it may be able to expaned ferther?

i've allways loved trance. breaks was the first music that i was really exposed to in the party scene and that became my #1 pretty quickly, as did jungle... but trance has allways been a steady kick ass form of music.
as with everything, there is good and bad, but i think with trance moreso than most other genres the "bad (i.e. cookie cutter, uncreative, trance-by-numbers shlock) is the most popular worldwide, and therefore its what most people are exposed to. since hearing that stuff first and having their friends bash trance as well, those people aren't really given a chance from the beginning to try to hear and understand trance the way it should be heard, which results in them developing a deep hatred for the genre...i.e. courtney stating: "I HATE TRANCE." with nothing else to say. either that or they really HAVE given it a chance and have decided that it just doesnt move them the way other music does, such as in 9663's case. anyways, to all you trance djs on the board, keep on playing it, even if its not the most popular with this crowd, 'cause its definetly a needed part of the electronic musical spectrum. |

I'm in the middle of watching the Kiss video and I thought this quote kind of fit with the topic:
"When we first started going to parties, you know, 1990, it was about something different. In one night there would be four different genres of dance music all in the same room and now its turned into 'okay I only listen to drum n bass, or only one specific kind of drum n bass' and thats asinine. There's beauty in all music, and to shut your eyes to it..... we're trying to make people open their eyes" -- Rabbit in the Moon |

All i can say is check out some real psy/goa trance. dark soho, mr peculiar, infected mushroom , it's some dark, hard shit that's never repetitive, and although I like lots of beatsbut it all sounds cheesy and simple compared to high quality psy/goa. i've found the vibes at good small goa parties in van to be the best there are too. Go check out Organix at club 23 and tell me you still hate trance.

courtney when did you first start partying? 3 years ago? things change, progress, evolve. Maybe the trance you were listening to then sounds a lot different from the trance that is out there now; and that goes for every type of music.
It breaks my wee lil heart when people respond so closemindedly to the suggestion of other types of music. Don't judge a book by its cover, and don't judge a genre of music by its reputation. |

If you hate trance then you are for the most part a minority in the scheme of things if you think of it on a global size, almost everywhere else in the world is pumping trance in the main rooms of there clubs and partys and playing mainly house in the side rooms, and if you look at the top 100 list for dj's , almost all the top guys are playin trance, in a world scale, trance has the largest following, dont get me wrong, anyone who knows me knows im totaly down with breaks and and cut up beats, but in alot of ways, it seems vancouvers taste is ass backwards compared to the rest of the world.............i bloody luv trance!
