I don't think it's worth going to school for.. I know 3 graduates from Trebas in Music Production/Sound Engineering and they've gone back to school cause they couldn't get any work.. I know 2 people from Vancouver film schools Music Production/Sound Engineering that are going back to school yet again due to lack of work.. this is what I wanted to take until I looked at the costs and the returns, I think your best off to just get an education, get a job and then buy and learn to use the equipment in your spare time. This is the feedback I've recieved from most people in the industry that I've talked to.

Don't waste your time or money. You probably won't get a job in the industry and who knows how long it's going to be around? Is it really worth your youth to spend time on music production alone? I mean, I'm VERY interested in the field as well, but I'd rather study a path which I'll likely follow or have use for the rest of my life (ie Business). What I'm going to do is study production on the side and hey, if it ever goes really well (and chances don't look very good, for me, you or anyone) then yeah, I'll quit my job or study and work on production.

In the mean time think long term, is CDIS really going to get you anywhere? If you're really naturally talented then maybe, but how do you know if you are talented? My advice is to choose a more stable and promising career path. Remember, alot of producers out there have day jobs, some with good day jobs that can pay for the expensive equipment that u need for music production.

Shit in 2-3 years you might not even give a shit about production. Be smart, get a good job and if production goes well enough to become your career (which 99% of the time it WONT) then thats great, but I doubt it'll happen.

^-- thats all fine and dandy. but im not interested in producing music. im more looking towards getting a job with audio production company who sets up systems for concerts or in halls an shit, or like a recording studio as someone who maintains the equipment.

conner, i think ur right. im starting to looking into programs for electronic engineering at least ill have more options in the end. thanks

dude

if all you want do do is basically learn live sound, don't waste your time at school.

Go volenteer with companies who do sound for parties.
