to say that in a city the size of Vancouver, all the DJs who play breaks have nearly no records to play and none that you haven't heard, is beyond absurd there's so many DJs out there who are mad talented but don't get booked because they don't know the right people and don't have a big name backing them up I'm one of those people, but I intend to change that in short order I don't even know how u could even pretend to believe that none of the local DJs have good wax crazy people :soak: and that was my rant of the night *bows and accepts thrown roses* |

I probably forgot some peeps too!! Hey cinto, would johnny cage ever come up here? cuz I know he doesn't tour much at all. Is he recovering well from that motorcycle accident? Benyamean... I havn't talk to Johnny for a while, but from what i hear he's gettin a little better. Yeah he's a bad ass DJ, and let us hope for his good and quick recovery!
Rawb, sorry you feel that way man, but there are a lot of local djs who have quite the collections of records! not only czech! tho Czech is the bomb! Ryan, it's funny how not even a year or a year an a half ago you were playing soo many of Icey's records. No disrespect man, but you can't put something down like that. You know aswell as I know that the both of us used to look up to him! Shit he's still an awsome producer and DJ. Just because your style has changed more towards onewasy doesn't mean you have to diss the people on the other end man! to each their own right? Not saying you dissed them just now, but you know what i mean! Peace Cinto |

I'm gonna have to go with Rawb on the local dj debate. So true...

[b] anyways, it does have a grain of truth. vancouver's breaks scene is very incestuous with its records. except for the well established (czech) or people doing live pas, the lack of available breaks tracks severely limits the ability of vancouver breaks djs to sound different. "hot tracks" last about a week or two, and then everyone has them. ^Rawb.... Being a record peddler at Boomtown and being that the "breaks" section of the store is what I was brought into the store to handle- I would agree with you that YES the good records that pass through do get caned by everyone once they come out , since I need the store to make $$ and that breaks are second to house in sales in our store (though DnB is close), I will sell as many copies of a popular track till I can't sell no more....But I think that is a good sign that we're making ground pushing breaks in Vancouver.... On the other hand some of us ( :c-tard: ) have access to many promos and dubs that don't see the shelves for months.... maybe you should check out a "twentyHz" show in the next little while to hear some of these tracks that no one has..... well just not yet that is! :200: Soda |

What the hell are you talking about Eric?? I saw Icey play at Summerlove a couple years back and he sucked ass.. So did Baby Anne all three times I saw her play! Just because I buy their tracks doesnt mean I wanna see them play does it? I didnt knock them as producers now, and I still have a great deal of respect for Icey as a producer but I think they do suck huge ass when they play out. Why is it that people think that if someone can make a good track, they are sick djs too? They are 2 different art forms... So I ask you again Eric, what are you talking about?

Eman- darker, slower paced nu-skool Cinto- Florida Marky Mark- Breakstep All totally different sound. Of couse you wont hear the same songs. You should make a comparison with djs who play the same style Last edited by dj_precise; Jun 23, 03 at 07:57 PM. |

Rawb
i disagree....and the proof is at pound wednesdays. let me know if you would like to come down and i'll have you on the list :) vancouver has many breaks dj's that play different styles of the "broken beat". I'm thrilled since nu-skool is becoming much more popular now than it was when i first got into it. and i'm sure i have records other dj's have, but i'm positive that my crate reflects my own style. no one elses. As far as what kind of beats we get in this city, we have Soda to thank for the kick ass selection of breaks that this city has, you da man Andrew! 5 breaks dj's i would like to see BLIM Stanton Warriors Chris Carter Jay Cunning (the only name "major" in breaks that is not a producer as well) Precision Cutz doing a live PA set Last edited by Akeel; Jun 24, 03 at 10:30 AM. |
