^ I love Cannibal Ox and a bunch of other artists you mentioned Sammy.
I'm not going to argue but I must say the majority of you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. It's one thing to state your opinion, in this case (for the most of you) being that you don't like rap.
But, it's a completely different story when you start breaking out "hip hop" and rap and trying to act like you know what you're talking about. Rap is hip hop my dear, hip hop is a culture.. a way of life consisting of the 4 elements (or 5 beatboxing is debatable) as Wigglesworth mentioned.
Rap never became hip hop, rap was always a part of the hip hop culture represented as an element. 2Pac and Biggie both highly respected the hip hop culture, and recognized their music as hip hop.
If you've only heard a small variety of rap music then I don't think it's fair of you to discriminate against the whole genre based on the commercialized shit that you hear on 94.5, but again that's your decision.
Try listening to some of the less recognized hip hop artists that are out there making albums for the love of their music rather than trying to see how many records they can sell. I can gaurantee you 90% of the more underground artists don't talk about "money, bitches, and cars" and don't feel the need to swear to make their songs presentable.
