Courses for music production?
Can anybody recommend some good quality courses I can take to fulfill my musical dreams? :D
I'm hoping someone here has taken a few of them. I'm looking for a "quality" sound engineering/music production course that teaches programs like acid, sound forge, properllerhead, pro tools etc. Does anyone know of any good instructors or classes? TIA fORM |

i am sure for a lot less $$ prime or clay or someone could show you all you need to know in a few days.
acid, sound forge, reason etc are unbelievably simple....gettin the hang of pro tools, cubase and working with midi is the only really tricky part imho. |

i spent like 2 months to master reason by myself.
its the slow way to go.. but i learned almost everything. But the interesting fact is that I now do everything my own way - so when i show my friends theyre like wtf did you do?? you coulda done it this way.. blah blah.. its pretty unique now. despite the fact that its free! :D respect. |

either cdis
or pavi http://www.pacificav.com/main.html pavi is a new school with brand new equipment!! go take a tour!!! |

i checked out the cdis info session a while ago, they got production in there, but then it kinda leads more into cartoon background music, or the music behind movies and stuff....checked out trebas last year, they looked dope, but they outta biz now, and ive only heard of pavi....some music institute.....

trebas is still open in montreal and quebec, and those ones will stay open. those campuses have the nicer equipment as well. but i still wouldnt recommend it, since they fucked me over. also if you are willing to go somewhere else...like t-dot. then check out ...fuck i forgot the name...i'll get back to you on it hahahaha... |

Thanks everyone for the input :y:
I've got a couple leads i'm working on and I hope this one lead comes through and i start the learning process. I've spent some time mucking around on reason but i find I burn out easy when i'm trying to reconstruct an idea and hit a barricade because I can't program the effect i'm after. I'm hoping some one on one will get me cruising in the right direction. I'll definitely let you all know how things are going and obviously share my progress with ya as we work on some tracks. fORM |

^good luck form...it can get a bit frustrating to maintain focus on a track esp. in a program like reason.
dj4mual:any midi enabeld key board will work....but if you would like full controll of soft synth parameters(filters ,ocilators) then i would go for a oxygen8 controller check out http://www.midiman.net/ |

I dont recommend them at all , id take the money and invest into equipment and some books and sit in there and practice. You do learn a substantial amount from the courses in regards to theory and recording and u get a certificate from it. As for getting taught how to actually "produce" they dont teach that. that comes from practising and messing around for 8 hours trying to get the perfect sound. If you look at the ratio to graduating students too jobs its rather low.

im new to this production stuff, but it fascinates me and i wanna learn all i can...can someone refer me to a website or a book that can teach me the different software/hardware tools commonly used in the process and how they interact with one another? one more question... so a midi controller... u can assign the knobs on the midi controller to manipulate certain knobs in a software program like reason?... and use the keys to program chords, or drum patterns? thanks for the help!

all of these schools are fucking espensive. and yes you get what you pay for most of the time. I completed a program at CDIS with covered studio engineering, protools mixing, midi technology, live sound, music theory all that shit. and I spent a furtune going there.....every dollar was well spent.
if you are the type to dump your whole life in to school, if you are that passionate about being a recording artist/dj/producer/pastey looking guy who works at the studio, that all that you do is practice, learn and use the equipment that you have acess to as a student. then spend the money and enjoy every minute of it. if all you require is access to the dope new gear and the know how to use it. Then check out the private colleges but if you just think it would be cool to do any of the above^ then maybe you should consider were you want to put your money. I did my program and my student loan officer is always happy to hear from me every month... c'est la vi |
