i think someone told me it stands for program mix, controls the sound of that channel, filters let u shape the frequency of the audio, cuting at a certain frequency etc etc etc... usually it makes settle changes that are useful for mixing sounds ... i may be wrong

I've been using DJ Traktor Studio for some time now, it's pretty good compared to most programs out there, I like playing around with the reverse loop keys, than taking a small loop from another song and incorperating it into the mix. I heard the new version is on its way with more effects... Native instruments Absynth also rocks, you can take sfx from there and use it with Traktor.

Such an old thread!

I dunno about Ableton Live. If you are using it fully you are creating the music performance on the fly and it is your own work to a much greater extent than DJing. If you have a 2 hour time slot, I don't know that many people have the ability to deliver a quality performance that is mostly their own work. And how many people really want to do this? They better quit their regular jobs.

Compare this to DJing, where even if you are a producer maybe 10% of the stuff you play are your own tracks, and you are mostly playing other people's music and you have the freedom to choose the best you can find.
