ive never heard of the eh2270 but i own a pair of 280's and they're awesome
the sound quality is great and it blocks out external sound really well... only thing is they have a burn in time so you wont get optimal sound quality until after a few hours of use |

of course i have an opinion :) i'm the biggest gear whore there is!
HD280's - sick! excellent isolation with a full ear cup design and padded making them really comfortable. Comfort and fit around my ear is important since i got pretty big ears. i've tried these too and i like them more then sony 700's (which are shit!) EH2270 - these really arent much different except for a higher SPL, but keep in mind these are made for audio engineering applications, so they wont be able to take much of a beating as the 280's, these will also be better for just plain listening - whereas the 280's are made for dj applications and have a nice loud high end. i say try both and buy whichever ones you like more. |

ear isolation is very important! there's nothing worse then being beside two monitors that are louder then your headphones.
ive used the 280's and they're great. my only problem with them is that they're friggin HEAVY. no real flexibility either. over all though the sound quality in the mix makes it worth while. |

There's a huge forum thread, over 600 posts about headphones at http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/s...threadid=29639
I have the Sennheiser HD-280's - they're excellent, really a studio monitoring headphone. Although they can be used by DJs and have very good isolation, so you can use lower volume, saving your ears for possible future use. The 280's are sort of big and dorky looking. They are supposed to be very flat frequency response but they don't seem very bassy. The headphones that have lots of bass like most Sony models (which look cooler) seem to artificially crank up the low-end, ghetto-blaster style. The HD-25 is similar but even better sound and looks, more $. A&B Sound sometimes have a lot of good headphones. I was in the Abbotsford store and they had about 10 sets of Sony HDJ-700's at $235 a pop (the store no longer has them on display) and that's the price they would special-order the HD-280's for. But I got my Sennheisers from a web store, much better price. :smoke1: Oh yeah - a problem with headphones (and speakers) as someone said above is they need to be broken in for 10+ hours, so the store demo models might not sound too good. Best to at least bring your own CD and try them on a good stereo (not a ghetto blaster the sales clerks like to use for demos). One thing I've noticed is that these headphones, except for bass, have much better sound than most home stereo speakers. I have 10 year old Paradigm Phantom speakers and I thought they were still good, but after using the headphones it's obvious that these speakers no longer have good midrange and highs. $150 headphones are probably as good as $1500 speakers, in some ways. ^^ i like the bass on the sennheisers.. the only thing tho is that the only way you'll be able to hear the full effect of the bass from the 280's is if you have them placed perfectly on your head..
i dunno, maybe its just cause my head is small heh, but if i sorta have them tipped forward a little i wont hear much bass.. but if i had them tipped more towards the back of my head i hear hella amounts of bass honestly, i think sennheisers are total gold when it comes to headphones for dj'ing... they're a tad bit heavy but its not too bad, and they're not too expensive ($160 at tom lees?) |

^^ I will try a few more positions to get more bass.
I got mine at www.etronics.com, $75US + $8US UPS surface shipping + $15 Cdn GST/PST at border (I had them sent to a forwarder company south of border that charged me $3). No duty cuz they're made in Ireland. Total cost about $115 Cdn. Sometimes amazon.com has them for $70 US. I'd like to buy this stuff in Canada but the difference was too much. |

the hd 280's are great in the fact that they will take a beating and a half... if you go for looks they are kinda big and dorky..
they eat my face but they will take a beating, if you order online they now have a new version in the states, its a silver edition as all of the headphones are having like the sony 700's the tech 1200A and the pioneers i use the pioneers... as akeel sais they arent that comffy they seem a little fragile but the sound is unmatched in my opinion and i like that they are tight on the head so that they hold my glasses on when im sweaty dont get sony 700's cause they breaks, every dj and their dog can tell you that the tech 1200 and 1200A are probably the most durrable but have a much different range of motion |

wow u guys have some great opinions on headphones. i got a lot to consider before dropping a couple bills..
Akeel yeh i realized the eh2270's are for production, that means they have more of a flat frequency response then the 280's ? im slowly getting into production and wont be getting nice studio monitors for awhile.. so i wanted to use those headphones for both production/dj'ing ... or do u think the 2270's wont hold up as well for dj'ing as the 280s? thanks for the help guys |

the eq response over the whole range will be better with the EH2270's - you'll be able to hear more of everything..but they wont be as good to mix with in loud club settings since the isolation isnt as good. if you wanted to get into production though - good headphones are essential and my advice would be to take the EH 2270's, just dont treat em like shit and you'll be fine. I use sony 600 or 900's which aren't for dj'ing and they've lasted me well over 4 years of serious abuse. |
