I wasnt aware that Linux WMA support was so shakey. Obviously MSFT has their reasons, but figured since their mac support is strong, and OSX is basically Unix, that a port would be pretty easy to find. Thx for the pointa peacout |

OSX is far from basically unix. It just has a BSD core so it can run Unix programs (IE Bash, getty, etc.). But all the MacOS APIs are rather proprietary (hence why you won't find an x86 port of OSX anytime soon) and probably PPC-based, and so getting Mac stuff to run on linux is a lot more difficult than a simple recompile.
WMA shouldn't be a standard IMHO because Microsoft has this sad habit of breaking their formats in order to make them more proprietary. If you don't believe me try opening a Microsoft Office 6 document in Office XP. |
