Erm, I don't really know what you're talking about in terms of producers moving on to other genres. Heck, off the top of my head I could list a dozen or so awesome, big name trance producers.
If you check a site like Tune Inn, you'll see dozens of EXCELLENT trance releases every week. Trance just isn't the genre of choice in Vancouver, which doesn't really mean much in the big picture.
