trance flows, it is really easy to dance to, and can be almost euphoric, if you find the right stuff. Some tracks lately have been ASS. Breaks are fun to groove to when your high, which I am rarely so no use dancing to it. Speed garage, drum & bass and Jungle are FUCKING ANNOYING, to dance to. I dont enjoy listening to funky house, but it does have that groove.. cant help but dance.

actually i have heard it and was really dissapointed. every tune on there was shite. maybe my collection is better? i dunno. as for taking a step backwards - just because my taste changes doesn't mean I'm heading backwards. would you say the same for a trance dj turned breaks? No. |

Just an observation but electronic music in general seems to be at a standstill. I mean think about it most stuff sounds the same as it did two three years ago regardless of genre, well except for some mainstream hip hop which has just gotten worse. This is not a bad thing though, it actually presents an opportunity for budding producers to do something different and create excitement again..... As for speed garage it had its time but after a few tracks I actually start feeling sea sick, so the key is to mix it up. My humble two cents |

fuck man, I got 10 years plus on the average raver and after 6+ years of eating, sleeping, breathing & spinning breaks it's getting stale. |

I think its the actual whomp whomp whomp whomp bassline that really doesn't change in speed garage. This is what has the rocking effect on me and makes me feel queasy. I think if at some point the bassline would change it might help with this)
I have heard enough speed garage to find it terribly predictable Exhibit A: ( Mirk's anatomy of a speed garage track) intro...little build...whomp whomp whomp, whomp whomp whomp whomp!!!! x4 .. bigger build...... whomp whomp whomp, whomp whomp whomp whomp!!!! x2 (sometimes in a different key if you are really lucky) another breakdown percussion, end. What characterizes speed garage is the whomp bassline so take it away and what do you have? Half assed pitched down hard house. I love music don't get me wrong and yes there is such a thing as too much techno (go to a soundproof party and find out why) ********i spin techno so coming from me this actually holds some value i guess I love anything but I crave variety. |

PPCOCK: It's amazing how you can love and spin all those different genres yet can't find 2 speed garage tracks that don't "sound the same". Yeah I guess I'm close minded. Quote:
So if you really weant to get into this whole I spin more than you (so I'm better) contest; I also spin oldschool, funky breaks, newschool, big beat, funky lounge (Towa Tei style stuff), down tempo, trip hop, progressive, progressive trance, and house. Last edited by AWOL; May 25, 04 at 10:33 PM. |

its kinda funny how my thread about breaks sucking has gone through trance and now has ended up about speed garage. no one really has defended breaks therefore proving my point that new breaks are lacking in original funky qualities.
