A question was posed to FNK as to the validity of his #1 status - a status that implies that he has a way with the decks , not his fucking popularity you momo. You're getting your back up about your dilusions about me calling him horrible. HE'S MY FAVORITE TOO YOU FUCKING MORON! Sasha is a better DJ technically, but Tiesto plays a more popular style to tunage as everyone here keeps saying. |

I defer my opinion of Tiesto to Kent. He pretty much sums it up right here. |

Hey, Ponz! Leave the noob alone. It's not his fault he hasn't explored EDM enough to know any better.
As for this: Quote:
For the party and vibe? Sorry, but this doesn't fly with me. A party vibe is what you make of it, irregardless of who's providing it. I don't doubt Tiesto can create a fun atmosphere, but then so does Buuren, Glaude, Dan, Felix, Alkan, Bones, Vath, Lashes, etc, etc. I'd have just as much fun at any of these guys/gals' gigs as I would at Tiesto's. When you loose yourself into the night, such things as who's proviving the music becomes quite irrelevent. Yet, so many people seem to think that only Tiesto is capable of these things, just because he was voted #1 DJ for two years running by a magazine. And it is this ignorance that I tend to dislike. Whenever I might slag Tiesto, it's not because I dislike his work; I just wish to remove this god-like image so many seem to have of him in hopes of showing there is more to EDM than Dutch trance DJs. Fortunately, the longer anyone sticks with EDM, the more they realize this as well. :) |

Personally, I'd have to agree with the majority of this thread. Tiesto is not the greatest dj. Sasha is by far more talented when it comes to tearing up the decks, reading the crowd etc. it's like comparing Britney Spears to Tori Amos. Britney writes, sings, produces what people want to hear, Tori Amos has extreme talent on the piano, writing, etc.
The "Majority" of people who are into Tiesto are only into him because of his popularity. Popularity because he plays sounds that accomplish nothing but fluff. Every other producer in the industry is coming out with new sounds trying their best to further evolve the music. His productions as of late have been soooo boring ie. Traffic. It seems as though his productions are just recycled, he has not come up with anything new. As far as dj'ing goes, the fact that being a dj involves giving the audience what they want to hear, he is definitely talented in that regard. His mixing is horrible, but the next track that he plays will surely put a smile on your face. And that is what this music is all about, is it not? All in all i take Tiesto for what he is, a #1 dj who is helping the music gain steam. I heard a Tiesto track on 95,3 a couple weeks ago and it made me smile because I knew that there was a person out there in radioland who had never heard that type of music and was compeletly turned on by it, now they're hooked! Just the same as I was a little while back. Ahh Nostalgia. |

teisto is awesome in my books... not the best but hes the most popular. he rocks the place though i saw him last time he came to the commodore and just went for a ride! that was one of the most fun nights i've ever had i think?
sasha is legendary. but then again sasha is in a different league.. and has been voted number 1 (or at least the top 5) for like 5 years on the dj mag chart. and while he was number 1 people talked shit as well. tiesto deserves to be where he is. his mixing is probably deteriorating the more he plays at all these loud parties all over the world but his production is what gets him where he is. any retard can dj... many can read a crowd, but not many can produce at such a high calibre and present it through such a high level of djing like tiesto does. |

i don't have much to say on tiesto...but to the guy who made this post: anything sells if it is marketed well, especially if you already have a reputation. just look at the new Star Wars movies. Bad Bad Bad movies, but yet they still pull in millions of dollars because they are riding on the name Star Wars. Then go and look at some underground and Indie films that are just brilliant but hardly make any money because their marketing isn't as good. It's the same with music...if you're marketed right, you can ride a long way on your name and image, whether you are good or not. that being said...tiesto? meh, i don't like trance very much but he has some good tracks, can't really say much on him though since i'm not well informed at all. |
