Is Tiesto Good or Bad
Officially, Tiesto is my fav. dj in the world. I've seen him 4 times and looking forward to a 5th this week.
BUT: Really, technically, he's not very good. His live mixing is marginal at best, he's not that creative on the decks and sometimes throws the bpm into outer-space - leaving the dancer outragously bagged with no time to recover. That said, he's a phenomenal producer. His cds are intense, well thought-out and flowing. His track selection, live especially, is what makes him hugely popular. But can we reconcile calling him #1 in the world in light of the fact that he has some pretty basic flaws? |

i never seen such flaws?
I don't mean to say that he is the world's #1 deejay - but he's a pretty dope dj. surely.. his field (trance) does not leave him a wide range of creativity. forexample if he was on breaks.. he would be able to show off his scratching techniques and whatnot. But trance is mostly music selection and basic matching. but since trance is the most popular subgenre of electronic music.. he was able to become popular and work his way up the ladder. indeed a dope DJ/dope selection/dope energy/dope vibe. 9/10 |

tiesto is a terrible artist. i've been in the awkward situation of having to see him spin a few times and i inevitably end up snickering away at the back of the room.. i try in earnest to get in to what he plays but i always end up arriving back at the same thought: this is trance for dummies. and it is. i pity the poor fool who's appetite for melodic and harmonically rich music is sated by tiesto

As a DJ, he's only as good as his track selection and, thanks to building an empire around his namesake, every single trance producer out there will send him their demos in hopes of having him play it out. Having Tiesto play it kind of gives a track an authenticity of being ace. There are thousands of better DJs out there, though; both for home listening and for party vibes.
As a producer, he's just above average at best and mediocre at worst. Some tracks do stand out but I don't hear enough pushing of the boundries to make me go, "HOLY FUCK!!! THAT'S A KILLER TRACK!!!!1" Really, Oliver Lieb on a bad day trumps Tiesto on a good day when it comes to trance. Heck, even Paul van Dyk's latest effort, as poppy as it is, at least mixes up the styles more than Tiesto's latest effot. In all honesty, seeing the direction Tiesto's been going lately, he's starting to remind me of the raver version of Yanni. |

i think he's good. i don't watch for technical skills, i look for a party rocker and his outings here fuckin rock. and that's what i'm paying money for. simple as that. i go there to have fun, and he provides the fun.
can't wait for wednesday. of course it's so easy to hate on whoever's ranked "#1" anyways. just like how people hate on oakenfold. |

It seems to be the new cool thing to hate on Tiesto these days, guess people got sick of hating on Oakie hehe. I don't follow Tiesto as much as I used to, but he is the reason I started to love trance. It's true, that at times, his mixing seems to have gone down hill over the past couple years. However, most people are only going on this this from what they hear in his recorded sets.. who are we to say what technical difficulties or problems he may have had to deal with? Any any rate, Tiesto is the #1 DJ in the world for the vibe he brings to his shows, it is unmatched IMO. Those of you that disagree have obviously never seen him live. I've seen Tiesto in Vancouver, Seattle, Hong Kong, Ibiza, and Amsterdam. Every time he has fucking rocked, the people love him so much, the man can do no wrong. As far as productions go, Tiesto has done some amazing work. I don't play a lot of his productions anymore, but he will always have my respect =)

I had to get my two cents in here.....Tiesto has evolved from the first time I saw him play in 2000 (thank Goodness) and I have seen him perform well, not so good and have a hideous performance (rollercoaster set april 2002) and amazing (fall 2002). So I left it on amazing because I would rather see up and coming DJ's and support them.
I don't hate on Tiesto. How can you? When you ask is he a good DJ consider this: Whether he plays good, bad, mediocre or fabulously I still have a good time I still have a huge grin on my face............no I am not on 5 pills, I ACTUALLY LIKE THE GODDAMN MUSIC!!!!! I still dance my ass off (or knock people out due to overcrowded venue at the Commodre) I leave content. So to me Tiesto is a good DJ. HE ENTERTAINS AND THAT IS THE NUMBER ONE JOB OF A DISC JOCKEY...... Technically he is not the most proficient mixer, but then again neither is PVD, Oakie, etc.......but to me I would rather hear a few mistakes and have alot of enthusiasum behind the set vs flawless mixing and robotic DJ antics a la Sasha. I will not be going to see Tiesto for a few reasons: I refuse to pay $40.00 a ticket to hear someone play tracks I have access to and half the trance DJ's in this city could mix together better. Rennie Pilgrim is playing the lotus and that will fuel my need to diversify my musical portfolio better. The last time I saw Tiesto he blew me away (this is very hard to do) so I have a fond memory of him. I want to keep it that way................you never know I might see him when he comes next year or when I go to europe next spring :D:D:D my two and a half cents Mirks |

If you dont want to see Tiesto on wed yu can always go over to the lotus to see man behind the bass heavy breaks scene Rennie Pilgrem.. FREELAND gets all the glory but Rennie and his label are reponsible for most of the biggest breaks tracks over the last 10 years... music with integrity...

Do yourself a favour: get your ass on Kazaa and download Tiesto "Energy 2000" and then download Sasha's "Northern Exposure". Tiesto's track selection is really good, but his mixing is forced, beats come off, and volume levels are fucked on more than one occasion. Northern Exposure will teach your sorry ass what mixing should be. Like did you really just make that post? :24k: |

Ur a joke buddy
Go download Tiesto live at magik 6... actually... how bout u just go download magik 1-7. Maybe a bit of gatecrasher, some innercity... fuck u want me to keep going? But OBVIOUSLY he's gotta be horrible concidering in energy 2000 he's just NOT COMPARABLE to sasha... Why do you think he sells out every show and rocks the fuckin house? Why do you think everyone who hears he's coming goes to buy his tickets as fast as they can? Why do you think he's one of the most demanded dj's out there right now? Well maybe it's because he is one of the best dj's out there and for some reason you just can't really see that. I know for one thing... Dj Sasha Couldn't And Doesn't Sell out 60,000 plus crowds every month, BUT He still must b better then tiesto... Give ur head a shake buddy. He's #1 for a reason. My point is made right there i don't need to write anything else, ur just wasting my time now. |
