That has got to be the dumbest post you've ever made, Jason.
The Streets are a phenomenon. "I write bangers, not anthems - leave that to the artful dodger..." Quote:

No kidding. Your attitude needs to make an adjustment about 180 degrees. Yes, it is possible to constructively criticize music, I'd probably expect that from someone who makes music themselves. Anyways, bigups to the streets. |

I've listened to the "A Grand Don't Come For Free" album 3 times now and I still don't know if I like The Streets. The album is supposedly this groundbreaking shit and as a whole it works because of how it goes through ups and downs and basically tells the story of a period in this guy's life.
But the rhymes and meter are either simple to just not apparent. And when I listen to it I don't think that it's good simple or minimalist simple... it's just simple. I feel like I'm really missing something here or maybe it's just above me. I'm digging the beats... I don't feel like they're anything amazing but they could definitely carry a wicked MC or poet, which I really don't think this guy is. It seems like the whole album is a voice over for a mature British Wonder Years. I guess what I really want to know is why are The Streets good and groundbreaking and a phenomenon and recieving so much attention??? What am I missing here? |

"last night was some beerlarinous"
"get my phone out, 'bout to give this girl a shout, see if she had a nice time last night uptown, ask if she fancies doin it again sometime, then cal grabs the phone and is like OIE OIE OIE, hold it down boy, yourheads gettin blurred, I know you can't stop thinkin of 'er....." mmm gotta love that dirty english accent |

let's face it... their rhymes are shitty and gay and their timing sucks ass... the only thing they have going for them is that they tell stories and they don't swear every 5 seconds (they just advertise themselves every second verse) you're listening to the streets, original pirate material, lock down your aireal! yeah, fuckin awesome, let's brag about stealing music from people and being unoriginal seriously... there's nothing worthwhile about The Streets maybe they'd be cool if they had timing and didn't big themselves up every second verse... but they don't and they do... so fuck that racket, sonny Jim enjoy them if you like, but they ain't anything special, don't give them more credit than they deserve |

I've been into the streets for years, and the whole point of their style is that it is not generic pop drivel produced by p.diddy, poofy daddy, or lil' john. Some people like it, some dont. I personally think its fantastic to hear something that doesnt really on the usual production loops and is innovative. Dont bother bringing up stealing loops & samples...didnt you just illegally sample a track? whatever. |

yeah way to make it personal Akeel... what the fuck dude
just cuz I don't like a shitty band ur gonna turn on me and start ripping at me and what I do, which you're obviously quite ignorant of if you think it's 4/4 all the time for your information, that 'bigging myself up' is called 'telling the truth' I'm not sitting there posting shit like 'hey I'm Thanatos, I'm awesome, nobody else has talent that comes close to mine', I'm posting information about what's going on with the track, because some people are interested and want to know more about it I dunno what your sudden problem with me is, but step off, you're going too far this time |

its not making it personal...what i'm trying to illustrate is a lot of people think what you make is shitty..but whenever you hear those criticisms you take it way to personally and go on about how awesome you are. Well, The Streets are successful at what they do and a lot of people enjoy it. Its to bad you can't expand yourself to see why, unfortunately. PS. his time isnt off, its usually on an off beat 2/4 pattern with an emphasis on the 16th or 32nd note interval. What I like about them is thats its different and has content. Also I dont have a problem with you, I never have, but dont expect me to agree with you just because we're friends. |

second, I don't know what you're talkin about when u say I go on about how awesome I am, I think I'm pretty damn modest, in truth... give me a good example of me talking about how awesome I am and maybe I'll concede that I went overboard until then I don't really appreciate what you're insinuating about me... if you have these kind of pent up feelings about me where you think I make crappy music and am too full of myself, that's really too bad, cuz I dunno where they're comin from... all I do all the time is make music, listen to music, spin records, then work my ass off the rest of the time to survive... if I'm happy when people take an interest in my music, I think I have a right to enjoy it and celebrate and share the news... if I'm wrong about that... too bad, I'm doin it anyways ;) I'm not talkin about different time signatures when I say they're off-time, by the way, I'm talkin about how the dude can't stay on the beat when he raps, plus when they chop bits out of other peoples' tunes, sometimes they don't even bother to match the bpm of one sample to the other... I dunno how any of that shit is groundbreaking or phenomenal, cuz to me it sounds like drunk British dudes who ganked a microphone (junglist massive, boh, boh, rewind!) |
