...and playing shows at the clubs/raves/etc... I've got some material, I just don't know how to get it out there... so I ask all the djs/producers how did get you first gigs?

Just get the word out there man. Show your face at various nights, hand out HELLA CD's, volunteer to play for next to nothing at first to get exposure, put mixes up on the net for download and promo whore yourself to kingdom come.

And stay away from the Jager while playing out. Shit's been known to end careers.

it's all about HELLA CD'S!!!!

plus, as lame as it is, 60% of your bookings will be because of WHO YOU KNOW, as opposed to HOW WELL YOU PLAY. seriously, that sucks, cause there is a lot of wicked dj's who are better than the ones that actually get play. (that goes double for me, i have a lot of friends who can kick my ass!!!) lol
but seriously, you gotta be "in the scene", meet EVERYBODY, make tons of friends, and e man is right, WHORE YOURSELF OUT....HHAHAHA...by that i mean, offer to play anywhere/everywhere/anytime/for no money, and you'll gain fans immediately.

when passing out cd's, give them to EVERYBODY YOU SEE!!!! don't worry about getting them in promoters hands all the time, cause the odds are good that each person you give one to will know a promoter, and if you can make a fan of them, then they will tell their promoter friend about you, which is better than trying to sell yourself. :)

not many promoters will appreciate the stuff you spin/produce therefore you wont get many bookings.

I suggest contacting/checking out the night. Soldiers of the underground, they got tribal trance right now on monday nights at Lick

also try Chris Schmidt

He does organix and also has a spot in Phantasm Records.

Yea that's what I did, the first cd I passed out I probably passed out about 150-200 copies of it. Every single party I went to I would bring a big stack of them adn hand them out to people I met and people that seemed to be enjoying the music. Costs me money to burn the cd's and put labels and covers on them, but it's soooooo worth it.
