Revolver~ Look, a decent synthesizer and Drum Machine, such as Roland Jupiter-8 combined with a Roland TR-909 blow away the Reason 2 program. I hate the samples in Reason 2, the algorythms sound like shit, their so digital and exact and sterile. I can almost instantly tell a song from Reason apart from a song written with true gear. It's good for a drumfill now and again. Next, judging me negatively only makes you look bad, I critisized Reason 2, not your bad breath, fool.
Sure Reason is fun, I mean it has a 16 bar looped drum machine full of horrible compressed digital drums, a horrible filtered sampler, horrible effects, etc, etc.. Reason SUX ass. Analog rules! |

you make it sound like its shit, last I checked, people like BT, NIN and charlie clouser were using reason quite frequently and they all have access to all the "gear" they could ever dream of. Personally I like hardware just for ease of use but reason is a brilliant program.
its all personal preference. I would be willing to bet you couldn't tell the diffence between the two if they were both mastered properly. Quote:

Yeah, I did kinda bitch slap Reason. Well, I guess being able to import your own drum samples into the redrum is kinda kool and the advanced sampler's filter sux, but at least it works and its cheap. I know there are quite a few newbie producers these days who rely so heavily on Reason. I just want them to look past Reason and explore other options. There are some really awesome analog musical machines that put techno music on the map that are still available for a good price. The Jp-8000 is kinda nice ($800), lots of slider and contols, not a bad synth. I would look a bit older than the Jp-8000, might go back to the Korg monopoly or the Moog minimoog. Anything Roland from the MC202( $350) to the Juno series ($200-500). Some musicians aren't willing to make sacrifices, they get a free version of such and such software and then they think their the next Freddy Fresh or something. Going analog takes longer, but the reward is much greater. Good luck.

just a question...
how does one rewire reason into adobe audition? whenever I try it comes out as pure fuss... edit: on the debate: I think the problem has more to do with producers not being picky enough with their synths, fxs, etc. or not fitting the right sounds into the right atmosphere... there is so much shit that I've heard where the beat and the bassline don't even have the same time... when I make a track, I try to be as sure as possible that the sounds fit correctly... even if I really like one sound or synth or whatever, I'll save it for another track because it won't fit with what I want to create... I personally think a track is as good as the time, effort, and love put into it... I can spend weeks to months on a track, and after that I'm always contemplating in my head how I could make it better... you could have all the "gear" in the world and still make pieces of pure shit... same applies to any form of music... owning a $4000 Gibson guitar doesn't make you Jimmy Page... Yo,
So far their have been some really good comments posted. There seems to be a common ground when it comes to Analog and Digital equiptment. I personally like the VST and Logic plug-ins, They sound impecable. Truly impecable! I pride myself on using pure analog gear. Reason has found no home in my tunes even though I have owned it for years. I have heard many musicians like BT use Reason, but not being a BT fan, I don't really care. |
