Mixer Talk

Ok, it's FINALLY time to upgrade some of my shit. I currently have an American DJ POS that i got from my friend, and tho it's been doing it's job it's really starting to crap out. I want to spend about a G on something new, but i wanna know what would give me more bang for my buck.

Do you guys have any suggestions? I want something that will last me a while and i dunno what's new out there.

What kinda mixer are you looking for and what do u plan on doing with it?

Scratch mixer? u want something with more channels so that u can possible hook up a CDJ or something. Do u want efx built in or do u want a ext. processor.

Rane, a&h, pioneer and ecler all make some pretty tight mixers. i think a rane ttm56 is in ur price range, its THE scratch mixer.. a rane empath is also good but more expensive.. and if your going to spend that kinda money i'd just splurge and get a ecler nuo5 like i got... best purchase i ever made and at new prices, alot cheaper then the other mixers like the djm600 and a&h xone 62

I went with the Pioneer DJM909

im a firm believer in Pioneer quality. Lawrence talk to me about ordering from america. we can ship below the border and pick it up.

and dont go to tom lee ... FAR too overpriced

Lol, adam, if you swiped my mixer, i could go around and tell the ladies that DJ OMEGA IMAGE took my shit. making me cooler by association. then i'd have to set my dog after you.

anyways, i want 3 lines (so i can connect my computer to my mixer and speakers). kill switches would be nice, and some built-in effects would be nice to dabble with. I need somethign with a decent crossfader so that i can work on my scratching (tho that really isn't my focus) but i really wanna be able to hear my mixes clearly without any distortion. i need full eq. control.. umm... it's gotta look sorta nice.. and be durable (i break shit fast).

^^i'd suggest a rane empath, it has efx sends, 3 channels, nice crossfader, EQ cut switches... and from what i've seen at stores and read, it gets good reviews and has great build

i'm not a fan of the empath, i dont really like the lay out or the feel of the knobs, and its fx send is cumbersome...personal preference i guess.

I *love* the Empath - it's got everything that I want in a mixer - 3 channels, killer penny & giles crossfader, amazing Rane sound quality and construction...

My biggest problem is that I really like to have an adjustable curve for my crossfader and i'd like at least 3 channels. Most scratch mixers are almost always just 2 channels and most mixing mixers tend to have absolutley shit crossfaders (don't even get me started about Allan & Heath faders).

The Empath fits the bill just perfectly.

Allen & Heath Xone:32 is about a grand and 3 inputs. Not that I know a lot about it but I had my computer on the 3rd input while there were turntables on the other 2 & it seemed slick. The guy that owns it likes it a lot & spoke highly of its sound quality & reliability over long gigs. Has a few extra features but seems more designed to be a really solid basic unit.

Note there are 3 input level control knobs on the top end with the connectors where you can operate them them but not see them easily (unless you walk around to the front).

A grand on a mixer?!? DAMN Lawrence you are getting seriously into shit now!

I'd go for the Ecler as Akeel can hook you up and save you money as well.

I'm down with Adam 07 so we can take a share,,, lol
and I also agree with Kraig about going with Akeel on the Ecler, I myself am looking into the HAK or something else that's a battle mixer, but unfortunatly I don't have $1000 to spend. I'm lookin for a second hand vestax 05/06/07 pro or tech. or rane or Ecler. I currently have the DJX-700 by Behringer, which i'm very content with and have no complaints esp for the price.

how about you and i do lunch at work and we can talk about mixers...
Monday hit me up and i'll meet ya in the caf.

wigglesworth is on a distinguished road
i have the empath. i have not played with a better mixer then mine. hooking it up to a efx 500 is a killer combination. the wet/dry controls are superior for effects. being able to control each channels effects from 0-100% is invaluable.
the faders are great. having the xlr, 1/4", and rca's is a great utillity.
also there's an auto gain switch which keeps the levels at 0 (essentially keeping each channel the same volume even if one is a little off.)

there's even an eq for your headphones. there's many other features on this mixer that are worth looking into.
this is like the ferrari of mixers.
i got mine for a g note on ebay.

best mixer for your money.

Kraig, totally dude. It's not that i'm taking it more seriously, i just hate having crappy gear. and if i'm going to spend like, $5-600 on a decent mixer, i mind as well invest a couple more hundred to make sure it's the real deal and not something to just hold me over until i can buy a really really really nice one.

I'm looking at all the different mixers that you sent me Akeel, and the ones that catch my eye are the ones with the wierdo slanted setup for the volume slider thingies. I dunno, looks sorta.. different. Also, there's no cue mixer (something i've grown to love). There's no great hurry. It's just a matter of if i either... fix my mixer ... or... buy furniture.. dammmmnnniiiittttt

Cinto, werd up. Let's hook up for lunch on monday. (sorry about last time, our project is stupid busy)

Dude I TOTALLY understand what you're saying... why do you think I bought all my gear brand new years ago. I totally agree though man... especially when it comes to DJ'ing, if you're serious about shit, you might as well invest in it.

Listen to Wigglesworth.. he knows what's up... As for a mixer though... it's all about your own personal preference... Go to Tom Lee music and fuck around with the different mixers there. If anything you can exchange whatever mixer you buy from there within 30 days if you don't like it.

If you need help on this, let me know.

Peace.

Tascam makes some pretty cool mixers. I haven't heard anything from people of the quality of their DJ gear, but they've been making pro studio gear for quite a long time, so I'd think their DJ gear would be pretty good quality as well.
