Tell me what's up? (Dj's & Producers)
I know there are a lot of Dj's and producers on FNK.
My question is: Since there is so much available talent, why isn't their more conversation on subjects relevant to the work that is being done? ex. I have a small collection of decent house/trance records(100), which I rarely Dj at clubs or parties. I've been producing for about 4 years. I like using analog instruments over digital software. I use Cubase SX for sequencing and I love it. I am horrible at using a mixer, I almost always have someone else mix the frequencies of my music. I'm currently making an ambient album. I would like to hear about your contribution to the music scene? |

honestly i find it hard to describe what i'm working on cuz i don't know anymore. whenever i try to analyse my sound i end up creating a sound that gets so redundant... i hope to be more skillfully spontaneous in what i do.... thinking too much about djing and analysing it makes it boring for me as an artist and probably the same for the people who actually listen the shit. just a thought on how i'm feeling about spinning.
other then that i'm feeling house music... the drops! damn house drops drop with so much sound n attitude i love this shit. listening to alotta house inspires the housey dnb sound i like doing. i'm trying to get my groove back i haven't been able to find the tracks i want on vinyl due to release delays n all that bs. i need some direct hookups.... which won't happen unless u produce top notch shit |

Producers: Back Hole Club
As for DJs, I dunno... it seems you learn a lot more from learning from friends than anything. There's usually a lot of trades/sales going on in the classifieds, and you'll occasionally see some thread around here about needles/carts/decks/mixers/gear etc. |

Right now theres a few house parties and possible all night raves in the makes on my side. With the house parties, I plan to get some of the less known talent out and see how the do live / mix that with the better dj's so that people will have a kickass time no matter what - and depending on that may get them to hit up one of the raves were gonna throw. Get some of the lesser known dj's a chance to make their statement.
And yo dave, once I get my new needle in were gonna have to get together and hit the decks for a bit =). |

I always buy my DNB records through local shops to support the local business instead of internet business..
Pretty much everything i do is for personal reasons and own enjoyment. I'm looking into investing in a website to run a netradioshow, do reviews and articles. I'm also learning to produce rather slowly haha.. im currently banging out hip hop beats on a mpc1000, and making DNB breaks in cubase.. learning to use pro tools to do some live guitar recording... thats me. |

I like to mess around with music, DJing at friends parties.
I'm interested in music videos too. Anyone who produces a good piece of music would probably benefit if they had a video. I've made a couple of videos for fun, I guess I should set up a website to promo that and see if I can do a real one. |

anything that titillates just one of the senses can serve as only low-grade mind-stimulus at best. what we need is an experience that engages the sensoria in their entirity, or even better, something that activates sensation beyond the realm of conventional human experience. please, someone show me the next level. i crave it so badly. *falls over*

I make ambient right now... I'll go into psytrance and atmospheric/trance breaks every so often but ambient is my true love... finished the essential foundation of a new track... going to tune up a few old ones and make a demo I can hand out to every club I set foot in... I also love reverbed guitar...
party: I never knew you liked ambient... would you be interested in jamming? |

Hmmm..
I think when you live breathe eat and sleep music, you're not necessarily as inclined to chat about it on message boards. I usually surf through here at two times: a) i'm at the monotonous bill-paying job and need a break, or b) i'm in the studio and need a break..... but I don't mind answering help questions about audio programs or techniques (as others on this board will tell you.)
I also have a bit of an irritating setup that usually keeps me from posting my tracks or clips from them; my studio is a separate, soundproofed, NON-internet-connected room. I do this mostly to ensure rock-hard virus and adware protection, I find my setup runs much better. But, when I've been working on a track for hours, I find I just get way too lazy to mix a chunk of it down, throw it onto my firewire drive, unplug the drive, walk up to the house, plug in the drive, and dump it, and upload it. Know what I mean? OK as far as contributions? I've been spinning, MCing, singing, and doing live PA in the electronic scene for the last 8 years; mainly drum n bass, although I started with tech-house and in the last few years have branched into many other genres of music. I was lucky enough to get to travel and play my music, and I've always brought tracks with me by up-and-coming local artists as well as, now, my own. I've been producing seriously for 3 years, and was one of the first Vancouver drum n bass artists to have a record released on an internationally renowned label (Breakbeat Science). I co-own and manage a recording facility. Before all this, I played bass and sang in various angst-filled indie/punk bands in cafes and high schools. I love this city, and I'm proud to be from here. |

big ups to the Ill-esha massive!
she forgot to mention she was also awesome enough to show me her setup and to explain how things work and give tutorials on programs that I hadn't used yet! this was about 2 years ago when I first moved here :D myself, I just got Reaktor 4 and taught myself the general uses of a bunch of the synths and sampler units... I'm workin on a new heavy bassline breaks tune that I'm titling 'Soulforge'... one of my previous tunes, also heavy bassline breaks, may be getting a release on vinyl on the record label 'Drunken Unstable' aside from that I generally just work a lot, make music... and spend far too much time on forums! LoL |

Another contribution to this city's music scene is going out and watching groups play. Last night I saw 3 amazing bands. Bakealite, Primes and Hidden Mummy. Music has so changed, its no longer a 3 peice rock band and a singer. Currently I have 4 peices ready for the dub plate. As for Ambient guy, yeah, would like to hook-up, please PM me or e-mail me so that we can jam.

hmm lets see, picked up tables in 2000 DJ'd the party scene for a bit and moved to the clubs where I did what I could to support breakbeat as part of the EDIT crew every monday. Never really got into the producing thing till I started scoring multimedia projects in school and I've finally got my very own copy of Logic which I love! My backpack basically holds my studio so I'm always down for meeting people who can show me a thing or two (though I'm not very out-going about it)... *hint *hint.
Don't do much DJ'ing these days but I do enjoy supporting DnB and breaks behind the scenes. If I get some time on my hands I'd like to apply my new media (web design/ devlopment, video editing, interactive cd's etc) skills to help promote /support the scene in whatever way I can! So like others have been saying, PM me or email if you want to jam or whatever. |
