Reaktor, Absynth, and Reason. For hardware:Triton Extreme, ION, Access Virus. I went for the Motif ES, but the Triton has nice dance/trance sounds. ES is better for Breaks and House, IMO.
I second Cubase SX and a load of samples, or if you have the money for outboard gear- Protools(it will come with the Mbox and up) |

KS-Rack is like a completed version of the K-Station with double the voices, more filter types and more waveforms etc... Sure the virus sounds more analog but analog is not always what im looking for. I find the KS-Rack has more responsive filters, more intuitive interface, and bolder FX, a much cleaner sound. But the virus sounds a lot warmer and crunchier more badass i needed both those sort of sounds so i got both. these's no such thing as a be all and end all synth. what the 'best synth' depends on the style you write in. and your style will always be changing and so will your requirements. on a side , unrelated note: Multitimbrality is cool too but one midi cable can only handle so much data, i woulnt have more than 3 main synths going, using CC very sparingly, maybe more only if its simple stuff. |
