absolutely, apple has 100% encouraged anyone to make after-market add-ons for the ipod, acknowledging that the more accessories out there, the moe ipods they're going to sell. the only thing you might have to pay apple might be a small licensing fee if you wanted to call your product "iSOMETHING" (eg: "IMIXER"), not too sure about that and whether or not apple holds a trademark on the "i" prefix..... but i'd be pretty sure numark could go ahead and build their little mixer with no hassle. however, aside from giving you an easier control interface it's really no different from what you could do with a couple of docks, 2 1/8"-rca cables, and any mixer already on the market. once they add pitch control and "nudge" to ipods (it's coming apparently) then stuff like this will be a more viable alternative.
they could build a specialized 80 gig "ipod DJ" with an rca out, pitch control, nudge, and a faster hard drive and then someone could build a dock for it that resembled something like a pioneer cdj.....THEN you could start thinking about it being a viable dj alternative.
as for djing, the mixer isn't meant for people who want to learn how to dj, it's meant for people who want to have a house party, and they and all of their friends already own ipods. so stick it in your kitchen, plug it in to your stereo, and take turns porting you ipod in and picking out some party tunes....
