what kind of blends are we talking? if it's just this instrumental vs that acapella, it's hardly worth putting on a cd imo... performed live or as part of a mix, sure, but if i'm gonna listen to stand alone blends it better be more than just that...
i've been working on a number of blend tracks at home, but trying to do things that would be impossible on just a set of turntables, ie blending 3 or more tunes of different genres, tempos, etc into one cohesive sounding piece (ie billy squire vs buju banton vs a run dmc break). even those are just intended for DJ sets though, i'd never put them out on a CD as individual tracks... ^ I'm pretty sure it's a CD of blends - i.e. mixes or "mashups" (I hate that term).
Yea, it's a pretty hot item right now, but I personally don't like hearing them as stand-alone pieces - it's almost like music production Lite. Z-Trip didn't just make a name for himself coming up with cool blends, he did it by being a shit-hot DJ that would drop these blends into a mix unexpectedly and make them work. |

damnn .. just read this now .. i`ll do the explaining.
1. Yes it is a CD of 14 singles 2. The 14 singles are all blends ranging from 1, 2 or 3 different instrumentals per acapella. 3. The CD is not a continuous mix.. its a blends CD (like mateo said) 4. I tried my best to explain to everyone it was a CD of blend singles.. and also that it wasnt my official mixtape (obviously James was one of the couple i didnt explain to" 4. The CD itself reads the title " LCU Exclusive Blends Vol.1" - not "Stimulant J Mixtape Vol.1" 5. This CD was made for all the clubnites & supporters of LCU.. the ppl that support us.. We were planning in giving something in return for all the ppl that makes our nites successful. We figured why not do a monthly Blends mixtape to keep it different. We couldve pissed everyone off and done a "dance mix 95" type CD that just had singles of hot tracks. We figured why not spice it up and take advantage of the 3 decks + 600 mixer. At least its something different and not what you`d hear every day. 6. The CDs 14 tracks were all done by myself. But this one was just to break the ice. Currently there are 4 DJs on the Leftcoast roster and the future plans are to keep releasing these CDs w/ production from every DJ. Sure we could all do a continuous mixtape every month instead.. but reality is that we are all "club hip hop DJs" .. every mixtape would include same tracks.. just different mixes. Individual mixtapes is surely in future plans still tho. 7. I know theres gonna be some ppl that`ll just read this and say " this fool obviously cant mix .. thats why he makes CDs w/ singles" Thats kool w/ me ..opinions are free, but hopefully some of you get a better understanding of what we were tryin to do. For the Record : James - sorry man but im not impressed...did you even mix the tracks or is there supposed to be a 10 second break between them? I blended the tracks and made them singles... didnt mix it together. Thx for the opinion anyway... feedback always helps. Dabbler - blends. is he charging money for that cd? to "blend" tunes? Not a chance ..These CDs are free.. we actually handed them out personally at every club nite we did in the past month. No way we`d charge for it. Stringbeans - blends are sooo ridiculously overused the beat 94.5 ... half the time they sound horrible and out of place too. i havent checked out this cd but i hope the blends actually flow together and arent made just for the sake of making a blend Everyone has their opinion.. I myself think some of the blends on the BEAT are horrible and over used. I tried my best to make it stuff thats never been heard yet. I used both older and newer stuff .. acapella`s and instrumentals (I`ll hook u up w/ a copy at fusion if I cant get it uploaded on here right away) I`ll respect your opinion either way if u like it or not. Mofo X -i much prefer hearing blends worked into a mix rather than them as stand-alone tunes myself. All of Z-Trips blends are incorporated into a full-on mix set... I promise u when my actual mixtape is finished .. it`ll have loads of blends incorporated in the mix throughout the 70 minutes. heres a tracklisting + instrumentals + acapella`s for the curious ones. LCU Exclusive Blends Vol. 1 1 - Snoop Dogg - Signs w/ Coolie Riddum 2 - Sazon - La Calle w/ Bring em Out / How We Do / Next episode 3 - Mario & Jada - Let Me Love U remix w/ Money aint a thang w/ Groupie Love remix w/ Sweetheart 4 - Usher - Caught up w/ Tempted to Touch remix w/ No panties 5 - Akon & Baby Bash w/ Fill Me In w/ Love Dont Love Me 6 - LL Cool J - Headsprung w/ Wait w/ Clap Back 7 - Ashanti - Only U w/ Bally Baby remix w/ Candy Shop 8 - G Unit - Ride with U w/ Your the One w/ Lets Get Blown 9 - SWV - Your the One w/ Tipsy w/ Lean Back 10 - Destinys Child - No no no w/ Its like That w/ Hotel 11 - Usher - You dont have to Call w/ Betcha Man Cant w/ Baby Boy 12 - 50 Cent - In Da Club w/ Drop it likes it Hot w/ Fuck U w/ Cash Money is an Army 13 - Youngbloodz - Damn w/ Down and Out w/ Xxplosives 14 - Ciara - 1 2 step w/ Signs w/ Hollaback Girl Hope that answers most of the questions. Im gonna try my best to get the CD online for downloading in the next few days. As for my 1st official MIXTAPE ..its coming! |

The CD will be online in a day or two....
GO DJ STIMS MY DJ ! LCU we do this for the people let no person destroy what we create..... i personally love the cd and bump it day in day out.... u gotta know your hip hop to know it aint easy just sticking a beat and some words together to make a song that flows together...esp since you take the vocals and match them sometimes to THREE DIFFERENT BEATS ON ONE SONG...not too many local hip hop djs do that... props to stim on that... |
