there's gotta be a way to have my cake and eat it too... there's just gotta!
or at least, there oughtta who out there has money and wants to start a night that they wanna let me run? ;) LoL also, another idea I have is that most club nights are kinda on overkill... every week is too often to have a night... once every two weeks would be perfect... that way there's actually excitement to go to the club, because you don't get to go every single week... it's hard to get motivated to go out to the same thing every week and it's hard for promoters to find fresh DJs to spin every week... and it's generally hard for the DJs to find fresh wax to play if they're the ones playing every week |

Holy drama batman.
Here's a question to everyone who has an idea of what events could or should be like. Where's your party/event? I often read lots of posts on how events/club nights should be done, so why don't you go out and do something about it? I'd love to see more people become part of the solution. BTW, this is not directed at anyone in particular, so no one should take it that way. |

personally, I would LOVE to be part of the solution... but right now it's just not financially possible... I can barely afford to pay rent and bills and buy a bus pass so I can get around, nevermind droppin hundreds of dollars on gear and DJs and a place to play
one day I hope to be able to throw events, but unfortunately with the job I have right now it's just not gonna happen... unless somebody out there knows a way to do it basically for free? right now the only way I can really contribute my fair share to the breaks scene is by writing tracks and spinning breaks wherever I can (aka: PIMP on the 25th in Medicine Hat) any care to drop off a boatload of cash to my doorstep? :D |

^ cash is only one of the things required to make nights work. If you really want to get involved, talk to the existing promoters or the people making nights happen. Offer your services however you can and mention your ideas one-on-one. Complaining on a web board, however, is probably the least productive thing you can do.

yep... this is true
if only the world were that easy to change hey? LoL if so, I'd be all up on startin a thread about how there's not nearly enough big breasted babes suckin my dick right now and how there really oughtta be far more of them... like... fighting over it and shit... hahaha |

Okay I look to the UK for clubnights. Right? SO, first of all you get influenza as your resident (uk clubs have big djs as residents right?) SO, then this one night (it would have to be on a fri or sat) you would promote on ever street corner, hell, hand out a couple flyers at top40 places. Have this be THE PLACE to see big name Djs, doesn't matter what genre..
It's oh, Tiesto's playing? Must be at "blah blah club night" or, oh, Adam F is playing? Oh, must be a at 'blah blah club night' Yep, it'd cost money, BUT if you start getting the 'fabric' vibe like in london, where that's THE PLACE to go to listen to electronic music, you'll MAKE money. Use atlantis as your venue, or somewhere with a lot of street peeps, checking the night out, even if they don't really know who they're seeing. Somewhere with credability already and with lots of room. Then, you get the recognition of the big uk djs, uk magazines start checking out your night, etc etc. Would it be easy? No, would it cost a lot of money? Yes. But, THAT is the way to make money in the electronic scene, FILLING VENUES. If it takes spending $2000 to bring in a big DJ, if you're a well known night in a well known club, you'll make that money back x10. Right? Last edited by firestar; Jun 01, 05 at 01:46 AM. |
