Broken Beat Nights.

I'm not talking about "breakz".

Is there any nights in this city that lays down a solid mix of the broken beat, I don;t mean hip hop either.

IG Culture, Jazzanova, Bugz in the Attic, 4Hero, Arts and Sciences, Blakai, Rojas, Ursula 1000, Zap Momma etc.. etc..

Would their be enough support for it if their isn't?

i think the Upstairs Recordings night @ Ginger shows some love for the bruk... not sure when that's on though. I saw Domu there about a year ago, rocked the hizz

ps 'IG Culture' & 'Zap Mama'.... plus i wouldn't really lump Ursula in with the rest you mentioned, but wtf they kick ass anywayz

haha shiat, typos ;) though i thought it was Zat.

Yea, i can throw ursula in there.. it's still a broken beat, more chunk than the swing, but can make it work ;).

Anyways, i'll check that out.. you sometimes hear it in a lounge the odd time, but nothing that's focused on it, or a culture around it in Vancouver. Tis a shame.

Yet the crowds will go for it when it sneaks into a progressive house night, as evidenced by your showing at Red Room couple of saturdays ago..

Or at least, I went for it =P

Bugs, in the attic.. collect no staaatic!

not meaning they shouldn't be mixed... just that Ursula isn't what you'd call 'broken beat' in a categorizing-things-on-the-record-shop-shelf sense. That said, the thing i appreciate most about the broken beat scene is that the DJs tend to be totally unrestrained by genres, categories & tempos. When Domu played at Ginger i didn't hear one 'broken beat' record, just lots of good hip hop, soul, deep house & funk.

Hey Kyle, we met at the redbull sesh, what's shakin!!! there is bunch of dj's, producers, promoters down in seattle by the name of Sun Tzu sound and they are always bringing dope acts to town.. ie: Mark De Clive Lowe, Bugz, jeremy ellis aka ayro, john beltran, king britt, among so many others.. I haven't gone down there as of yet to see a show, but since Van is lacking in the Bruk department, its definitely worth a trip one of these days!!
but anywayzzzz here's the link to their site http://www.suntzusound.com/

Usually Rob/Aklimatize has always got the heads up on when dope talent is coming to town! His site is up now too... www.futureelements.ca

Alright take care and peashhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

cheeeeers..

I heard a little thing about that seattle crew doing their thing, may have to check it out someday. Was just "hoping" i was out of the loop about something good going on in vancouver... maybe someday..

It's funny I use to buy all sorts of the broken stuff on vinyl, 3-4 years ago.. still listened to lots of it, but after being introduced through mutual friends to the one they call Rob, I've been having quite an itch for a healthy dose daily again!

Cheers dave ;)

I hear ya there!!! I hope it blows up here like it has done in Europe and Japan!! And yeah it's all Rob's fault I've fallen in love with the Bruk life!! =P

If you're ever in Richmond, you should come over to Kev's and my place and have a jam, or we should have a BBQ sesh at Rob and Morgan's!! Nothing like good food along with some good tunes!!

By the way if you like Zap Mama, Seiji's done a recent remix of "show me the way". Bloody wicked it is!

Alright...Take care and peashhhhhhh!!
