Undercurrent Show Today on NSB/Mix By Emmanuel Ferreria
YES! Breaks heads Tongue n Groove are back again to host the Undercurrent show on NSB Tonight we have a very special guest mix from Vancouver based Dj Emmanuel Ferreria www.poundrecordings.com DJ BIO Hometown: Montreal Que. Canada Location: Vancouver BC Canada Affiliations: POUND Recordings, Ground Level Productions, Fahrenheit Style: Breakbeat Info: Emmanuel has been an underground favorite in the breakbeat scene for years. He is recognized mostly for his unique track selection and superb mixing skill. His sets always manage to sound fresh and exciting, drawing from many influences such as Danny McMillan, Tipper, Luke Vibert, Precision Cuts, Bushwacka and Uberzone to name a few. His versatility is also astounding, creating the perfect atmosphere no matter what time of the night he plays. He became inspired to take up DJing after watching his local heroes Andrew Spence (fka DJ SLIM aka the saxophonist on Rennie Pilgrem's 'Pilgrimeage') and NUDLEZ slam it down at many a party back in the day. Their take on breaks was different from the hip-hop influenced breakbeat being spun out at the time. He went out and bought his first two records (an ep from Rainbow Bridge and DJ Graeme's original mix of El Nino) and has been building his collection ever since. After causing a ruckus in the scene for a few years, he was signed to various labels/promotion companies, including Ground Level Productions in Victoria, BC Canada and POUND Recordings, a budding record label in his hometown of Vancouver. He became a resident at POUND Wednesdays, the longest running and most succesful breaks/drum and bass/Live PA night in the city. Soon after, he released his debut mix CD 'Homewrecka' in 2001.There was no turning back, as he realized from his success that this was more than an expensive hobby. The last year has been the most eventful and exciting in his career, having been booked overseas and playing a big role in pushing things forward within POUND's ranks. He followed up 'Homewrecka' in 2003 with 'Invisible Airline', a mix that propelled him into the international spotlight after it won the 'Searching by Sonar' contest on Nubreaks.com, one of the world's most reknowned breakbeat websites! The future looks very exciting for this young lad, seriously honing his production skills and pushing the breaks sound while securing gigs abroad and building Vancouver's fledgling record label. Expect to hear more from this rising talent in the future! As well as a the usual beats n dirty bass from Dangamouse so be sure to tune in TONIGHT!!!
