is anyone else greedy with their music?
if i don't like someone or know that that person will not fully appreciate or comprehend the feeling/meaning behind a song.. i will refuse to play any of my favourite songs for them/around them..
i think it's because i feel that they will taint the song for me.. or something along those lines.. i'm not too sure.. is this really wierd? (hopefully) is anyone the same way? |

actually
i let people listen to my music (especially people who dont normally listen to anything electronica). They'll usually follow it up with a weak "i like it" to which I lay into them that they in fact do not, and cannot understand how wonderful of a track it is on the level I do. Elitist? check. |

i'm the same way. i let people listen to it i just get annoyed when they like it and pissed off if they dont, and listen to it for like 2 seconds and say somthing like "i dont like it" BAH! what do they know? so i dont really know why i share my music with other people?

anyways, i personally dont care who listens to my music, or what they think of it. if people ask about it or show interest, i try to tell em what other songs they might like. whooooo 80s music |

Wow.
Honestly, it sounds like you're just insecure that you listen to shitty music. I let anybody listen to what music I have. Granted, I select for friends because normally I can guage what kind of music they'd like. And it's not such a matter of I won't play something because they'll taint it that it is I won't play it because they won't enjoy it. It's called "knowing your audience". It's like, I could play Bauhaus for a bunch of ravers but frankly they'd just complain and want to hear Tiesto. And frankly, someone asking me "Do you have any Tiesto" makes me want to stab my temple with a screwdriver. Music is art. Art is designed to be propogated. So stfu about Armin already and enjoy some :wumpscut:, fucking e-tards. |

theres some shit that I spread around, cause it's bangin, but most of the time, the people don't understand it.
some other stuff, i've kept to myself cause it's way too close to me, and it would get ruined most of the hip-hop i listen to they wouldnt like anyways because they can't understand metaphors, new creatives, or comprehend any sort of the language being used in another way. I'm not one of those people that protect they're music with a fight.. YOU CAN'T LISTEN TO MY MUSIC BECAUSE I DON'T WANT YOU STEALING MY SCENE. XXXX WOULDN'T WANT YOU LISTENING TO HIM BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIM.... fuck, it's not like you made the music, just spread it if you actually care about the artist. I dont give a shit at all when people dont like what i am listening to.
Different music sounds better or worse depending on the person and their personal tastes. People are complex like that,ha ha. I cant expect everyone to like what i listen to. The reason i do share music with friends or randoms is to see if they like it to. When they do, thats nice. When they dont, who fuckin cares, cuz its what I listen to. For the most part I like to share my music, but i've been in a scenerio where I sent someone Portisheads "Undenied" and they said it was just "ok" and I basically stopped talking to them because clearly they can't appreciate good music the way it should be appreciated.
I don't care if taste is relative, that song is fucking gorgeous and everyone should acknowledge it. It's amazing how much you can learn about a person from just looking over their CD collection. |

NOPE not at all.
when i go to work armed with my ipod first thing i do is patch into the finest home theater(infinity, yamaha, polk audio)that we sell and blast out some of the wirdest shit. my sales manager apparetly thinks that aphex twin is a ..."trip" lol. try to share all the music i can. if someone dosent 'get it' i dont mind and just ask what 'they' get ya know. fuck all that pretentious, elitest music snob BULLSHIT. i passed through that when i was like 21. |

I will always share music if some one shows an interest in somthing i play and im all for forwarding the scene im in (Breakbeat) but i didnt get into music to impress other people so dont really give a rats ass what other people don't like, as long as im feeling it thats all that matters to me.

I only share music if I'm currently into something that I think others will like. I spent about three years deeeeeeep into schranz and hard techno, and refused to listen to anything else... and constantly failed to get even the slightest bit of interest from anyone else. "Sounds like an unbalanced washing machine!" was a common critique.
Right now, OTOH, I've been handing out stuff from Psapp, Lali Puna, and I Am Not A Gun to coworkers. Suddenly they're all coming to me to ask me my opinions on other music... |

I think I have too much fun sharing the music I got. It seems I always get someone asking me if I have this or that and, while I may not always have it specifically, chances are I'll have something very similar and end up exposing someone to something they may have never known existed. I always get an ear-to-ear grin every time I hear, "Whoa! I never knew they did something like that!"
When you have a lot of music, why hoarde it all to yourself? It was made to be heard, after all, and not everyone has the time to emerse themselves into collecting vast amounts of records or CDs. |

Cuz my CD collection kinda sucks right now- there's soooo much amazing music out there that I'd love to have on CD if I could afford it or wasn't too lazy or worried about viruses to download. hehe (PS - I'd rather have the actual CD, there's just something so much nicer about that) |

i'm not sure if some of you completely understand what i'm saying.. or maybe you do..
i don't mean that i completely horde the music i love, it's just that if i know someone isn't open minded enough to appreciate some of the songs that are very personal to me.. i don't like to share them i get the same feeling when someone looks at one of my sketch books and just non-chalant flips through it.. then tosses it on the table or whatever it seems almost disrespectful or something because i put a lot of emotion behind it right? ladyshades: it's funny cause i had the same thing happen with "roads" by portishead... one of my ex boyfriends was like "this is wierd" i was just like, ook... and your 'in the club' fucking.. "sweat dripping down my balls" bullshit is any better.. and i don't expect anyone to like the kind of music that i like.. i'm just saying that if i know that they won't appreciate it or understand it.. i'm not going to play it around them otherwise i love sharing the things that i love with the people that i am close to... i get excited about it actually..when it comes to anything.. food, clothes, pictures, movies, music, friends, stories, anything |

werd i don't exactly believe that there is bad taste in music.. everyone is different actually.. the only bad taste in my opinion would be like top 40 ..all the brainless "it's all about hot chicks, clubs, booze/drugs and the BLING".. it's poison to the mind |
