I do the same thing ill-esha, the manager at the club constantly give me shit. Just keep checkin the meter, also use a good mixer with a master level set below the red line.
As for ear damage; I thought my ears were fucked, I used to dance right next to the 15 inch JBL`s everynight and wake up with ringing ears. Worksafe was conducting tests where I worked and I was suprised to find that my hearing is fine. Not sure, but I think subbass is not as harmfull as other loud sounds. Good luck. |

Also yikes, sorry, I didn't realize you were doing all that stuff! Yeah, in that case, you're definitely the target demographic for the ER-15's - they'd be useful on your stage stuff, tho not in the studio... if you check the frequency response for the ER-15's over, say, regular earplugs, the advertising is true, the response curve is pretty flat... tho it drops off *sharply* after about 8k, which surprised me. You definitely lose a lot of high end, but at least you know the meat of your signal is coming through flat. I'm still swapping email with Etymotic over this ER-15 / ER-6 issue. I've taken a bunch of high-res photos of my ER-15's, and it seems like they may actually be the problem... they fit really well, and they sound great, but they just don't seem to want to use the ER-6 earbuds with them. It's sad, 'cause it seems like a great solution to the whole stage monitoring thing, decent in-ear monitors for like $300 total. If you're interested, here's the pics I've been sending them: http://mux.ca/images/etymotic/ The downside to the ER-6's is that they only go up to 16khz, which is too low for me... I'm lucky enough to still have very good hearing (like, I can tell from two rooms away if a TV has been left on, just from the high-pitched sound the high-voltage transformer makes). My Sennheisers did up to 22khz, and the difference is very noticible. OTOH, the ER-6's do block out all outside noise, which is nice. I'd like to try them in a really noisy environment to see how they perform. So far I've tried them on the bus and on a couple of flights, and they've been great. It might also be worth your while to check out the Shure in-ear monitors that matéo mentioned. Hey, I see we're both playing at the next LLW... track me down, I'll buy you a drink. :) |

I'll look for you for sure.. although don't be disappointed, I'm not doing much live stuff (apart from maybe singing).. just tag-team DJing with a friend.
Not much into earbud headphones. I think I'd' rather just get the plugs. I'm still wavering between the 15 db and the 25 db.. 25 db seems a LOT of reduction, but perhaps I need it. The Etymotic page says their dealers are in Surrey. Maybe I should go there, since you don't quite think your plugs are up to standard? I got some cash from mom for my birthday to contribute towards a pair, so I'm ready to go. |
