i actually have never really heard them. but i did meet the lead singer of this band when i was in grade 6 and he came to our music class and told us to all remeber the name of the band in case they got famous one day... how famous are they actually.. as i havent heard any of their music.. just wanting to know..

Back before I was a techno guy, I lived in New Brunswick for 21 years. My band in college used to busk on the boardwalk in Miramichi or outside the bars. We played lots of GBS songs... great stuff for accoustic guitar and three-part harmony. We made decent coin and met tonnes of girls. :) There's even five o'clock news footage somewhere of us singing "The Old Black Rum" in a park one afternoon.

I've got a huge soft spot for that style of stuff. Hell, I have a book of Stan Rogers sheet music around here somewhere, and if you get me drunk enough I'll sing you "Barrett's Privateers", lol.

^^ We used to sing Barrett's Privateers at our Pirate Parties back on the island... small little gatherings on the beach involving costumes, padded swordfighting and a shitload of rum.

Great Big Sea lost my interest around about that "When I'm Up I Can't Down" song. Mari-mac and Run Runaway will forever be amongst my favourite singalong songs.

I don't really like great big sea, but I've got a weakness for singing in gaelic and the sound of a fiddle, grew up with enough of it i think it's grown on me..
