I grew up with a tom boy mother. She went to electronics school and turned our down stairs bathroom into a work shop. Were as my dad only had enough tools to put ikea furnature together.
I always loved making things and have always been a very titatic(hands on) learner... much like illy said I love to work with the equpment, but im not that intrested in why and what makes it work. As I would love to produce, but first I have to learn the how to work thigs first. I dont know if it is a gender thing... but when I think about the production of what I see some of my kids make... I do notice that boys usualy seem more intrested in getting the work done. They do a great job wheather it be a physical or academic... but the presentation part of it often tends to be sloppy. Where girls seem to be more focused on the presentation, making things look good, more organized, and seem more worried if they did a good job or not. Where as boys may get lazy and dont seem to worrie about what others may think so much. |

as for avalon pres??? OMFG im a compulsive pre-amp junkie. ive rented quite a lot of channel strips to feed my 002r and nothing compares to the warm gooey feeling i get through a avalon. ha! the plan was to invest more into a better space but since being consumed with a serious addiction to travel im consolidating all my gear into a ULTRA mobile rig of a laptop,fw hd,maudio 02,and the fw410 as the front end but i might choose something smaller. the idea is to globe trott as much as possible and laod the HD with as many samples and recordings i meet along the way. i met this guy in peru who dose this and makes a pretty nice life going from city to city recording anyone who wants to jam. i plan to target more ethnic stuff like tribal rituals, chants and various icaros from shamans in the amazon. thats the dream...thats the goal. you can get a small(alot more than pictured) peak of my kit in the link to my MSNspace below. |

yoo...
i am married to ivana trump =).
Nice site btw schlick... But back to the subject, I'm happy you posted something like this, girls need to know how much FUN they are missing out on ;). I too wondered why the whole "technology" thing scared girls away from studios.. I know a few who took schooling and loved it once they dove into it. It's most likely that whole "brick wall" of the music scene that's been put up over the years with male dominence, a stated above. |

^true, I never said you were bad... your just not always that freindly or fun :p
Like I said... it kinda intimidated me. It may sound cheezy, but I use to love Zylon records because of Nacy Kyd. She was so freindly and never presented that hard core attitude that ALOT of guys in this industry seem present. I was never scared to ask what I thought was a stupid question and for the first time I was up beat and chipper in a record store. Otherwise I would have to be with closer guy friends to feel less intimidated. Like I mentioned how guys seem to have their own lingo... I find female dj's kinda have their own lingo too. I feel much more comfotable when first meeting female's than I would when first meeting a male. Last edited by Ree Fresh; Nov 19, 05 at 10:10 PM. |

I spent some time in Asia and the Middle East last year and was so inspired by all the different instruments and different scales being used by people there. If you've ever read anything by Rumi (Sufi mystic) he talks about being inspired by nothingness, rather than trying to fill the void with everything. About finding that quiet space inside you to achieve the ultimate inner spirituality and balance. I kind of feel that way about music; when I spend too much time inundated with it, it becomes redundant and derivative. I need to journey on camelback into the middle of the desert and hear only the wind whipping over the sand dunes or some Bedouin guy chanting to really start coming up with something sick. This is why it's so difficult for me to write songs in the studio. Thankfully, I just got a new cell phone with "Voice Records" capability, so I can just hit record whenever I'm walking in the middle of nowhere and get the vocal idea down. Please keep me updated on your journeys. Have you laid down any definitive plans where you want to go? My goal next year is to take a trip 'round the Mediterranean Rim and hit Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain and Morocco. Full of SO MUCH music and inspiration, oh, dammit, you're making me depressed sitting here at the office. Quote:
I know some of your friends and I had our differences over the years, but I think, contrary to the grumpy old geek rumour ;P that you have always maintained such a gracious and creative demeanour. I'm proud of you kid! I'll make sure to run over your foot with my motorized wheelchair in 60 years when you're hobbling down the street. Quote:

The travelling and recording that you guys mentioned reminded me of this site that I came across somehow or another. I thought it was interesting:
the quiet american It hosts a collection of short audio snapshots from around the world. Example: NYC hustlers selling coats |
