I'm not saying it would've been on my top year end list for 2005 but I just downloaded Anniemal and I think it's the best pop album I've heard in 20 years (It's at least a 4/5). Goldfrapp really paved the way for this with 2003's Black Cherry, but major credit is obviously due to Richard X and Röyksopp. Annie doesn't do too much for me, herself, but she never gets in the way of the sharp and catchy production and occasionally improves a track. The effects on her voice are quite rich. She reminds me why it always took me at least a few seconds to change the channel when I flipped past a Kylie video, but much better. It's the least whorey cover I've seen since Jewel sold out, and that's quite respectable in itself, considering her competition. She doesn't even show her whole face, let alone fat, airbrushed cleavage. I think I'd have to at least see footage of her live before I totally make up my mind, though.
