Oddball production question

OK you know in a lot of house songs (other genres too, but I notice it more in house..) The song breaks down and cuts out most of the drum beat and the sounds in the song sorta sound distant / muffled .. then when the beat drops again, the distortion goes away .. creates a nice effect.

sorry if that was vague. I'm just tryin to figure out what filter or effect you use to get that muffled vibe to the samples.

Matty Cue is on a distinguished road
High and Low pass filter is what is used. Most Production/editing Software has these functions.

What Software are you using?

yes, the LPF is what you're looking for. soooo overused in house (esp. disco house) but it's a nice effect that's hard to resist as a producer. just try not to wank out on it too much, it's best when used subtly.

There should be a native LPF in Cubase, but if you use a sampler instrument like Kontakt, the built in filter banks should sound much nicer.
