Hey guys. I need your help!
If you have 2 seconds it would be huge if you could fill out this survey about MP3 DOWNLOAD STORES. Your help is MUCH appriceated!:
What is currently your favorite download store? Why is it your favorite download store? What annoys you about some of the existing download stores (aesthetically or functionality)? What are your thoughts on the design and navigation of playittonight.com? What do you think about the colors of the following download stores (hate it/ its alright/ love it):
Which of the following images do you want to see in the header and in other locations on a download store:
Would you like to get emailed with new releases and recommendations for songs of your genre of choice? How would you like to get customer service? (Phone/emailpost) |

2) Everyone downloads for free? - Beatport.com just sold its 1 millionth song in 2 years (not to mention the fact that to get on beatport's top 10 downloads list you have to sell 15,000+ songs in a week) - itunes just sold its one-billionth song - experts predict the digital download industry to be a 9 billion dollar industry this year up from 6 billion in the previous year. 3) If you were involved in the scene at all or understood how it works you would pay the $1.00 for the song to support the artists and the labels. Please save your digital download discussion for another thread. Fill out the survey or have a good day. :) |

What is currently your favorite download store?
www.beatport.com Why is it your favorite download store? its easy to navigate through, and is updated very frequently What annoys you about some of the existing download stores (aesthetically or functionality)? Payment options are limited sometmes. Sometimes they are cluttered and not ordered properly, which is a turn off, if i have to look for a song for more than 2 minutes, im going to another site. What are your thoughts on the design and navigation of playittonight.com? looks good and organised. One thing is when you are doing your Genre's get all the Genre's and Sub-Genre's correctly, because i hate how beatport dosent know the genre's properly and you have to look all over the place. I like the search in that website. What do you think about the colors of the following download stores (hate it/ its alright/ love it):
Organisation and full song stream samples. so i know what im getting. Which of the following images do you want to see in the header and in other locations on a download store:
yes, dont make it too long, and only make it for the first time someone visits the website. Would you like to get emailed with new releases and recommendations for songs of your genre of choice? yes How would you like to get customer service? (Phone/emailpost) Phone and Prompt Email or IM. |

sean not sure if you're looking for suggestions but another that crossed my mind was "high quality listening samples" I can't stand listening to a track that I can hardly make out. I dont care if the copy i download is at 320kbps I wont buy it if it doesnt sound the same when listening.

Thanks Nabs! Much appriceated...
Mateo...thats a great point. The only problem is that then bandwidtch costs will go up. Most sites encode their samples at 64 kbps and they sound like shit. This is what I was planning to do but I might consider doing 128 instead... What do you guys think about this>? |

every site sucks except djdownload and beatport. 3beat is great for stuff you can't get on those two.
if you want to take a hint on a new way to survive on the online industry, check release records model. We'll see if its works.. but release promo feeds it's online store. Labels agree to give their tracks to release promo for free, top dj's in the world get the tracks at their finger tips, also there is an option for paid subscriptions. at a hefty $100 a month, but still "unlimited" download of the promo material is not a bad deal. Once the tracks are ready for the public to download, they have all the quotes, charts and feedback for all the high end tracks.. promoted right off the site. It dosn't dismiss the fact they have to drive traffic to the site in forms of advertisement and word of mouth, but it does give them leverage on maintaining some form of residual income every month with the paid subscription. You should also think about creating an online store with proper landing pages for artist and labels to put profiles up, which in turn inter link their releases from your store. Using Ruby on Rails for this task is simple as shit, and can be put up in a week with an interface. The benefits for search engine optomizations speak for themselves. Personal chart and DJ rankings would be great as well, linking the charts to clips of the tracks you are already selling on your store. But you make the chart open to all up and comers.. but feature high end dj charts to your selling tracks as well. (Kind of like how itunes has the option of users making "mixes" and you can download the whole mix..). Selling mixsets is lame, selling any kind of mix cd is lame.. waste of bandwith and around 90% of visitors are dj;s anyways looking for tracks. Having a recently listened history is always good as well, one feature beatport and djdownload lacks. Best of luck with it! Last edited by Skyles; Apr 09, 06 at 03:57 PM. |
