Influenza - Seattle - October 22nd

Influenza
[VAN, BC] (Pure Phunk, Electrofly, Sponge Recordings)
Their FIRST Seattle appearance!

The cold front hovering around Canada’s west coast music scene has recently warmed to the breakbeat sound. A whole new culture has taken hold and this radical change of climate has unleashed a ‘Nu’ epidemic on our world: the duo known as Influenza. Symptoms may include feverish bass, infectious groove, and a nasty case of funk. Onset is immediate and there is no known cure. – NuBreaks.com

Influenza’s story starts a few years ago, in a three-bedroom apartment, with two guys, and a common musical goal. Jason Craig (Oddmud), who had been spinning breaks for a few years at that point, decided he wanted to take it to the next level; the studio. Luckily, he found both a mentor and partner in Jeff Malcolm (Psidream), and conveniently, this friend-turned-roommate had already logged his share of years in the studio. Within months they had completed their first project, a remix of ‘Man’O’War - The Sting’ for Sponge Records U.K. The success of this first project affirmed both their chemistry and talent on a global scale.

The past year for the Influenza team saw a well-received second release, ‘Sublunary/Clone’ on Pure Phunk Recordings, which spent weeks at the #2 spot on Vinyl Addiction's Cool Cuts Chart. Their highly anticipated 3rd release ‘Panic Room’, which features a Transformer Man remix, is due to be released shortly, as is their recently completed remix of Splitloop’s ‘Electric Fence’. With several originals and remixes in the works - as well as being remixed by Krafty Kuts and Introspective - the Canadian duo of Influenza shows no signs of slowing down. After all, the only proven treatment for a sickness like this is respect.
