DILLINJA (Valve/Test) THURSDAY DEC. 16!!!!!
BOOM!!!
Automatic presents, in his first ever Vancouver appearance... DILLINJA Valve Recordings/Test/Beatz UK There are few producers on the drum and bass scene who are as respected and revered as Dillinja. With his trademark combination of dirty stomach churning basslines and tighter than tight beats, his reputation has grown steadily as one of the most influential drum and bass producers around today. After his sound system obsessed early teenage years, where he followed the likes of King Tubby and Jah Shaka's London-bassed reggae and dub sound systems, Dillinja began producing in 1991, and within a couple of years went on to form a myriad of labels such as Cybotron, Deadly Vinyl, Logic and Target. He has recorded for many other labels including V Recordings, Philly Blunt, Hardleaders, Renegade Hardware and Metalheadz, and has been called upon to remix for the likes of Bjork, Faith No More, David Bowie, Soul II Soul, Artful Dodger and Jeru the Damaja, as well as many many drum'n'bass producers. The various aliases under which he has recorded include Trinity, Capone and Cybotron. Dillinja signed an album deal with London Records in 2000, a move which resulted in the production of the notorious "Cybotron" LP in 2001, an album highly acclaimed by the dance music establishment, and securing Dillinja's position as one of the true leaders in his field. Dillinja's introduction to Lemon D in the mid 1990's lead to the birth of their co-owned label Valve Recordings in 1997. The label started as it meant to go on with Lemon D's aggressively funky "12.01" backed with Dillinja's brutal "Violent Killa". Test Recordings and new label on the block "Beatz" soon followed. Consistently pumping out top tune month after month, Valve has gained a reputation for dropping the grimiest dancefloor tunes out there, tempered with more soulful jazzy excursions. Not content to stop there, Dillinja & Lemon D went on to design and produce the Valve Sound System. Fed up with playing on second rate club sound systems which they felt didn't do their tracks justice, the pair decided to build their own - the Valve Sound System - the world's first sound system designed and built specifically for drum'n'bass and its frequencies of deep bass which were all too often ignored by most club systems. The mighty 90k Valve Sound System made its mind blowing club debut at London's Fabric nightclub in May 2001, and since then it has extensively toured the UK, with plans for the system to be taken overseas in the near future. Dillinja with HALF!!!! of the Valve Sound System before a Brixton Academy show in 2002 In May 2002, Lemon D & Dillinja produced Valve Recordings' debut album "Big Bad Bass", an LP which aimed to reflect the ethos of the Valve Sound System, with the inclusion of ten dancefloor smashing tracks which continue to enjoy club success some months on from the album's commercial release. Dillinja and Lemon D's second Valve album "The Killa-Hertz" was released to critical acclaim in September 2003. It featured a selection of the freshest dancefloor tracks, already familiar to drum and bass fans who have heard the scene's top DJs playing them out all over the world. The newest project out of the Valve camp is the "Spectrum" album, scheduled for release in the coming months, and showcasing some of the newer talent signed to Valve such as A-Sides, Craggz, Parallel Forces, Nu Balance, Friction, Dan Miracle, TC, and of course storming tracks from label heads Dillinja and Lemon D. listen here! ^no Valve Sound System for this show, word is they're thinking of building a separate system, to keep in North America and tour with, probably not quite as big as the original Valve sound. If that happens you can bet the show will be with Lemon D and some others at the Commodore!!!

the Valve system consists of 6 separate 18'wide by 9'high speaker stacks!!!! 52 bass bins!!! (by comparison the lotus has 4 bass bins)!!!!! with a little further calculation i think that the picture above of dillinja standing in front of the two banks of speakers is him in front of HALF of the rig!!! f#ck!!! ^ok, once again......he is NOT touring with the valve sound system this time! :)
...and if he was you wouldn't have to bring ear plugs, because they hand them out free wherever the system goes!!! though to be honest apparently it's not that hard on the ears, at least no more than a big stadium rock show, because most of the sound output is in the ultra low frequencies and subsonic frequencies, whereas most hearing damage occurs from high mid-range and up. apparently the biggest problem is that in some venues they had a hard time running the bar because the drinks would wobble away and fall on the floor before anyone could grab them! no joke.
