i saw it last weekend.
honestly think that the concept was better than the execution. The play has its moments but the script is a little uneven - some of it was brilliant and some of it felt a little forced. It felt sort of a mix between a nostalgia trip for old-schoolers and "rave 101" for non-ravers. The acting was really good too - I especially like the actors interaction with the audience before the play actually started (I had a conversation with one of the actors while waiting for the can which is pretty much the same conversation I used to have at any rave waiting for the can). Overall still $15 well spent though. Highly entertaining for the most part and a great venue too although the sight lines were pretty terrible in some spots. I had an issue with the fact that one of the DJs for the show plays from his laptop (they have 2 DJs that play and alternate). This is supposed to be a play set in the mid-90s? I don't think most DJs had ableton back then. And yea, 120 bpm was pretty much the norm 10 or 12 years ago - especially for house. Anyways, go see it - I thought it was good but not necessarily great, but it's definitely a fun experience. |
