Can there be an option of "Needs Improvement"??
I think that people are right to extent the Vancouver scene has been lacking the past few years...I can see why, the government has made things very difficult to throw huge "All Night Dance Events" Getting a proper business licence from the city is almost next to impossible now, for reasons which you can probably understand...
On another note, I was downtown with my buddy on Wednesday night last week, probably around 11:30 or so, and I see 2 potential fights break out, 1 of them actually did happen, a two on one..wtf!?! I was pretty sad to see something like this happen (Have really noticed the involvement of violence dramatically increase in the past 5 years.) If the police put a zero tolerance "Mischief" like charge on someone, and ban them from all night life events, it could yield a pretty interesting result. With poor shows by just a few individuals, its no wonder why the city will not approve any night life events, but its once again up to the gov. to see how they can resolve this problem, since it could be viewed as a pretty lucrative means of income if they get creative with a viable solution.....
Thirdly, its unfortunate that Vancouver doesn't have that many viable venues for either A.)A potential all night dance event (PNE and MLC being the two most viable, sure there are others, ie: Royal Banquet Hall, CCC, etc, but think in terms of transit accessable, capacity, etc) and B.)Club night: Plush, Commodore, and to an extent, Atlantis, and Plaza for 1,000+ person events.
Maybe after or leading up to the Olympics, the Prov. Government might see that as soon as this city hits 6:00PM, the whole GVRD turns into a nunnery, and see that it does need attention, and implement something which would appease everyone, in of course a legal fashion. Here's hoping.
