Along with penning liner notes to JB’s remastered Live at The Apollo Vol. 2, Thompson’s sched has been rediculously busy - he mixed the latest Macy Gray CD (with Rick Rubin) as well as drumming live dates for her (like he did for D’Angelo and his Voodoo); he recorded The Philadelphia Experiment with Christian McBride and Uri Cainein in one shot ; played with Shuggie Otis, on Nikka Costa’s new CD, recently completed in sessions with Common and for Zach de la Rocha’s solo debut; produced Erykah Badu, Bilal and bits of Soulquarians with James Poyser; worked with Nike on commercials and an upcoming off-Broadway musical; he's worked on/recorded soundtracks to Brooklyn Babylon and Spike Lee's Bamboozled; and he's currently producing and overseeing the next in the series of Red Hot projects: Red Hot +Riot, dedicated to Afrobeat god Fela Kuti (whose son Femi just left Philly after recording with Ahmir); he runs Motive (MCA), which recently released the critaically acclaimed debut from Jaguar and is set to release CDs by Black Thought and, oh yeah, The Roots. PLUS he has a new album out on BBE; the label that previously put out albums by Pete Rock, Jay Dee, Jazzy Jeff, & Marley Marl. plus special early performance by: URSULA RUCKER (Philadelphia, PA) K7 Records Attracted to diverse genres with roots firmly grounded in hip-hop, Ursula Rucker's music is an intricate balance between new jazz, hip-hop and Philly soul - all infused with poetic vision.
